This term has been very enjoyable in the garden as we transitioned through the seasons and seeing our garden bloom again! The students have been engaging in a range of garden activities such as potting up, planting seeds, watering our plants, making sure our chickens are fed, and most importantly, harvesting our fruit/veg for our recipes! We have been enjoying the good weather and sunshine while exploring our lovely garden we are so very proud of.

As part of their TASC curriculum, our Grade 11 and 12 students in S-Gold have been getting their hands dirty and putting their skills into practice across different garden settings.
From composting and watering plants to saving seeds, potting up seedlings, filling the bird bath, harvesting produce and even stopping to smell the herbs 🌿 — there is always something growing and learning!
These hands-on experiences are helping students develop practical gardening skills, build confidence and enjoy the many sensory delights that nature has to offer. 🌱🐦

In S-Blue this term we have been enjoying the recent warmer weather. We have been spending a bit of time outside playing on the bikes and having fun learning the words ‘fast’, ‘slow’, ‘stop’ and ‘go’!
In the classroom we have been reading a lot of maths concept books about numbers, shapes and sizes and singing songs about shapes and sizes. The Pete The Cat maths books are always a big winner!
We’re continuing our daily work on letters and sounds and enjoying finding examples of people and things that begin with the focus letter.
Next term we’re starting a Science unit on solids, liquids and gases. There are plenty of opportunities for making (and tasting!) delicious treats to see how changing the temperature of ingredients can change their state.

This term, our senior students have been busy learning new skills through our student-run Café and Canteen programs. In the café, students have shown enthusiasm and growing confidence as they take staff orders and prepare coffees. Some are becoming quite the baristas of Southern Support School, while others are developing their communication skills by carefully taking orders and making sure every detail is correct.
Over in the canteen, students have also been hard at work preparing lunch orders for staff and students. Everyone has played an important role, with some students cooking, others carefully labelling drinks, and some bagging orders and delivering them to the correct classes.
It has been wonderful to see students working together as a team, building valuable life and work skills, and taking pride in their contributions. The Café and Canteen continue to provide meaningful opportunities for students to develop confidence, independence, and a sense of responsibility while helping to create a welcoming and connected school community.

Inspired by The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, Blue Class students have been learning an important lesson from Vashti: every achievement begins with having a go. For International Dot Day, students created colourful dot-inspired artworks that celebrated creativity, courage, and self-belief. It has been wonderful to see students expressing themselves through art, trying new things, and discovering what they can achieve when they believe in themselves.
In Blue Class, being brave enough to have a go is something we practise every day. Whether it's working hard on letter formation during UFLI sessions, building confidence with transitions to the senior campus for Library and P.E., or tasting an unfamiliar food in our Kitchen/Garden program, our students consistently show determination and resilience. It may not always be easy, but as we always say in Blue Class: "You can do tricky things!" 💙🎨✨

As part of their TASC studies, students in S-Pink and S-Gold experience the world of work through the work skills and work crew programs.
Whether its retail, hospitality, catering, cleaning, gardening, deliveries or office work, students are busy practising and consolidating skills for life post-school.

Term 3 in S-Pink class has been fantastic! The students have worked incredibly hard throughout the term, making great progress towards their literacy and communication goals, as well as developing their independence and confidence through their work crew jobs.
This term, the students have continued to build their functional literacy skills through a range of engaging and meaningful activities. Alongside our daily Heggerty program, we have introduced a new literacy groupwork program called UFLI. The students have been highly engaged in the program and have enjoyed participating in the activities.
Our work crew jobs have also been a highlight of the term. Students have worked hard to develop important work-related skills such as following routines, completing tasks, and taking responsibility for different jobs. Each student has contributed to the class community in their own way, and it has been fantastic to see their enthusiasm and growing independence.
Overall, it has been a very busy and successful term in S-Pink, we are very proud of everything they have achieved.

In Pink class we read every day. Sometimes it is self-selected reading, and we have our favourites; PJ Mask, animals, insects, dragons and Disney. Our shared reading stories have an explicit lesson focus to support reading comprehension. Linking stories to what we already know about a topic empowers us to make connections. Things like favourite animals, what it means to be a good friend and special celebrations, places and events. Shared Reading provides so many opportunities for us to share information using AAC. We make comments, share our opinion and describe characters and events from our stories.

Last week's animal-themed School Social was a roaring success! 🦁 Hosted by our friends from The Friends' School and the Young Leaders of Tasmania - YLOT program, the night was filled with games, music, great food, and lots of smiles. What a fantastic term in Art!
We are so proud of our junior students and the way they have embraced the transition to the art classroom on our senior campus. Moving to a new learning environment can be a big change, but our students have shown confidence, enthusiasm, and a wonderful willingness to learn.
From experimenting with new materials to creating colourful and imaginative artworks, students have been working hard and showing great creativity every week.
It has been wonderful to see their excitement as they create, experiment, and share their artistic achievements. We can't wait to see what they produce for the rest of the term.
