‼️ Trigger warning ⚠️

Please be mindful that this video discusses domestic violence and the loss of life.

The story of a young woman she knew whose life was taken as a result of domestic violence.

Stories like this are difficult to speak about, but they are important to remember.

Domestic and family violence doesn’t always look the way people expect it to. It can happen behind closed doors, to people we know, in families and communities around us.

For Mel, raising awareness isn’t just about recognising an awareness month or posting a statistic. It’s about remembering the real people behind those conversations and using our voices in the hope that someone else may recognise the signs, reach out, or know that support is available.

No one should lose their life to domestic violence.

To the lives lost, the survivors, and everyone still finding the courage to speak, we see you, we hear you, and your story matters.

You got the reassurance. So why doesn’t it feel like enough? 💜

For some people with OCD, reassurance can bring a moment of relief, but the doubt can quickly return.

“Are you sure?”
“But what if…?”
“Can you promise?”

What can look like simply asking the same question again may actually be part of a cycle of anxiety and compulsive reassurance seeking.

OCD doesn’t always look like the stereotypes we often see. It can be internal, repetitive and exhausting and sometimes completely invisible to everyone else.

This OCD Awareness Week, let’s look beyond the stereotypes and make space for the experiences we don’t always see. 🦋

You look after everyone else. But who’s looking after you? 💜

This National Carers Week, we want to recognise the people who are so often busy making sure someone else is okay.

The appointments. The check-ins. The difficult days. The plans that change at the last minute. The quiet sacrifices that might never be noticed by anyone else.

Whether you care for a family member, partner, friend or someone close to you, what you do matters.

But this week is also a reminder that you matter beyond the care you provide. Your wellbeing, your rest, your feelings and your need for support matter too.

To every carer who keeps showing up, even on the days that feel heavy:

Thank you. We see you. 🦋

Some of the heaviest things people carry can’t be seen. ❤️

Someone can show up, go to work, catch the train, laugh with friends and continue with their day, while carrying far more beneath the surface than anyone realises.

Mental health doesn’t always have a visible sign. Sometimes it looks like someone simply getting through the day while managing anxiety, pressure, self-doubt, loneliness or things they haven’t spoken about.

This Mental Health Month, let’s remember that we never really know what someone else is carrying.

A little patience. A genuine check-in. Listening without judgement. Giving someone space when they need it.

Small things can matter more than we realise. 🦋

Be kind. Check in. And make space for the things we can’t always see.

On 23 September, we attended the DEC Werribee Expo, and this one felt a little different.

Cassie came along to help us on the day and represent 4 Reasons. What made that moment even more special is that Cassie was our very first participant.

Seeing someone who has been part of our journey from the beginning now standing alongside us, meeting people and being part of representing 4 Reasons was a pretty special moment for our team.

The expo itself was an amazing experience, filled with conversations, connections and plenty of familiar and new faces, but having Cassie there made this one we’ll remember.

From being there at the beginning to standing beside us today. 💜

This is what community looks like to us.

non-violence isn’t just about avoiding physical harm. It’s about how we communicate, how we respond when we’re frustrated, and how we choose to treat the people around us.

Today, and every day, choose respect, kindness and safer ways to work through conflict. 💜🦋

Happy International Day of Non-Violence from 4 Reasons Disability Services.

The parts of ourselves we try hardest to hide are often the parts asking to be understood. 💜

Anger. Fear. Jealousy. Shame. Insecurity. Even shutting down, people pleasing or needing everything to be perfect.

Sometimes these reactions aren’t random. They can be shaped by what we’ve experienced, what we’ve had to protect ourselves from, or what we’ve learned along the way.

Understanding where a reaction comes from doesn’t mean excusing harmful behaviour. It means giving ourselves the chance to notice it, get curious and choose how we respond next.

You don’t have to love every part of yourself to start understanding it.

Sometimes growth begins with asking: “What is this part of me trying to tell me?” 🦋

Save this for the next time your “shadow” shows up, or share it with someone who might need the reminder. 💜

Small shifts can change the way we experience difficult moments. 🧠

We can’t always control what happens around us, but we can learn to notice the space between feeling something and reacting to it.

Pause. Name what you’re feeling. Get curious. Then choose how you want to respond.

It’s not about getting it right every time. It’s about becoming more aware, one moment at a time. 💜

What helps you pause before reacting?

We were told “the participant was struggling” and then THIS walked through the office door 😭😂

Safe to say, they got us.

Never a dull day at 4 Reasons 🦋💜
