Speech Therapy is now covered by Medicare.
From 1 March 2026, anyone under 25 can claim a Medicare rebate for Speech Pathology. That is $87.25 back per session, for up to 28 sessions across their lifetime.
Who it covers:
Children and young people under 25 with a referral from a GP, consultant physician or specialist, who are suspected of or diagnosed with an eligible condition. That includes speech sound disorders, stuttering, and cleft lip or palate.
What you get:
8 assessment sessions and 20 treatment sessions, delivered in two blocks so progress is tracked as you go.
Where to start:
book a GP appointment, talk about your communication concerns, and ask specifically for an M10 referral for Speech Therapy.
