You are invited to participate in a study evaluating an intervention designed to access forgotten positive memories and feelings towards a loved one who has passed away. This research is being conducted by Ms. Danielle Sellick of Sellick Psychology and Dr. Christopher Holt of Sellick Psychology and the Discipline of Psychological Science at the Australian College of Applied Professions (ACAP).
You can take part in this research if you:
• Have lost a loved one who passed away more than 6 months ago.
• Reside in Australia.
• Are 18 years or older.
• Proficient enough in spoken English to complete a verbal interview and respond to a series of questionnaires in English.
• Have not experienced psychosis or dissociation (assessed at initial interview with psychologist).
• Are not currently receiving psychotherapeutic treatment designed to access forgotten positive memories and positive feelings towards a love one.
• Are not currently involved in a pending trauma-related lawsuit.
• Have no known relationship with either of the researchers.
If you are interested, you will complete:
• An initial 50-minute interview session with a psychologist at Sellick Psychology (either online via Zoom with wait room and passcode enabled or in person at the clinic in Ivanhoe, Victoria) to determine suitability and collect background information.
• Two 50-minute sessions with a psychologist at Sellick Psychology (either online via Zoom with wait room and passcode enabled or in person at the clinic in Ivanhoe, Victoria) to administer an intervention designed to facilitate access to more functional positive memories of a lost loved one, which may lead to a strengthening of coping skills and adaptive functioning.
• Six online questionnaires, which will be completed during the initial interview with a psychologist, each week for two weeks after the initial interview, after receiving the intervention, and again at 30 and 60 days post-intervention. The online questionnaires during the initial interview and at 60 days post-intervention will take 30 minutes to complete and will assess symptoms of grief, connection to the lost loved one, distress, and post-traumatic growth. The two assessments post-initial interview and prior to receiving the intervention, the assessment after the intervention, and the assessment at 30 days post-intervention, will take 15 minutes to complete and will assess symptoms of grief and connection to the lost loved one.
