Soul Compass

Soul Compass Career & Life Coach, Counsellor. Rebel with a cause. 7300 words. Hilariously, that’s how long my first version of this profile was. Ta da! Truly. I wasn’t.

I set myself a challenge to squash it into a three sentence summary. Aspiring teenage musician has existential crisis after controlling grandmother tells devastating lie which leads to decades of enmeshment, bullying and making bad choices with men. Survives near death experience in childbirth, autoimmune disease & the hiding of authentic self while becoming serial career changer & doing well paid

, prestigious roles purely for money & because of lack of sound decision making processes, lack of self awareness & lack of direction. Hits thirty & finally feels deserving of doing something for self, so trains in polarity therapy & counselling then becomes a specialist career and life coach helping people work out what to be when they grow up (all while dabbling in piano, stand-up comedy & quantum theory.) There’s obviously a ton of detail missing but the message is I have lived a life. And learned a lot from every experience. Even the car accident, even the failed marriages, even the workplace bullying. That lived experience makes me an excellent, intuitive, straight shooting coach for anyone who wants to make great choices by understanding what it is that lights you up. We take quite a trip together, a journey inward to discover internal drivers rather than finding external things to direct you. Once we reassess your career and life situation, we work out how to reinvent you & your personal brand to align with your new direction. Then you can re-imagine your whole life … so dream big! Of course, I could just write you a resume. But then you never get to work out the great stuff. Like what or who you’re saying yes to that you would rather not. What or who you’re saying no to that you deeply regret not pursuing. And what the risk is of having all you desire. Coaches are a dime a dozen so it’s important you find the right one. I’m a good fit for anyone prepared to do the work and commit to change & growth—corporates, mothers looking to recreate careers, top execs who want something more meaningful. And I’m a specialist transition coach for personnel leaving the defence force. Are you willing to die with your music still in you? Being smart is one thing. But without the integration of knowledge of your heart, you know nothing. Emotional intelligence is Queen. Faith in life, forgiveness, trust, compassion are all you need to start to return to you. If you want to talk about better processes for choosing your career & life, I’d love to connect.

Burnout does not always look like falling apart.

Sometimes it looks like getting everything done. Meeting every deadline. Answering every email. Nobody at work would have the faintest idea.

That is the version most women in midlife are actually living, and it is the one nobody screens for - because from the outside it looks like coping, and from the inside it just looks like Tuesday.

FLOW is my free ebook on what is actually happening underneath that, and where to start when the usual advice has stopped touching the sides.

Fifteen hours a week caring for your kids. Another fifteen for an ageing parent. What is left over for you?

You did not choose to disappear from your own life. It happened one reasonable request at a time, and each one on its own was perfectly manageable.

FLOW will not give you more hours. Nothing will. But it might help you work out where the breath went, and what to do about the bit you can actually control.

It is free, and it is short.

You had three interviews. Great feedback. A verbal 'we'll be in touch by Friday'. Then nothing. No email. No call back. Not even a rejection.

Getting ghosted after multiple interview rounds is one of the more quietly brutal parts of a job search, and nobody warns you how common it has become.

It is not about you. It is almost always about something that happened inside their process - a hiring freeze, an internal candidate, a restructure nobody told the recruiter about. None of which they will tell you either.

But knowing that does not stop it eroding your confidence, particularly if it happens twice.

If you are in the middle of this and starting to doubt yourself, that is worth a conversation rather than another fortnight of refreshing your inbox.

The economy will be fine. Which is a lovely thing to hear and almost entirely useless to you personally.

Australia's July 2026 data shows no broad AI upheaval - unemployment around 4.4%, participation near record highs. But underneath that, the most AI-exposed occupations have grown 5.6% since 2022 while the least exposed grew 9.5%.

Nothing collapsed. Growth just quietly slowed in the places where the tasks are exposed. That is much harder to notice, and much harder to plan around.

Slide seven is the one that matters. The aggregate always recovers. The people do not always recover with it. Treasury found roughly 247,600 jobs gone from coal regions that never appeared in the unemployment figures, because once you stop looking for work you stop being counted.

So the useful question is not whether the economy adapts. It is whether your particular work sits in the group this passes through, or the group it lands on. Unlike the handloom weavers, you can actually find that out.

Just quit and start a business, they said. Freedom, they said.

And sometimes it genuinely is. But not automatically, and not if you have skipped the honest questions first.

Here is what we imagine. Flexibility. Autonomy. Control over our own time. Work that means something. Never sitting in another toxic team meeting.

Here is what we do not always account for. Income that turns up when it feels like it. Isolation. The work of running a business on top of actually doing the work. Boundaries that blur until Sunday night looks exactly like Tuesday. No paid leave, and no super unless you pay it yourself.

Slide five is the one that catches most women out. If the pattern is overwork, over-giving and no boundaries, those patterns do not stay behind in the job you left. They come with you. Then they show up in your own business, where there is nobody left to negotiate with.

So the useful question was never 'employed or self-employed'. It is 'what kind of work, in what conditions, fits who I am and what I need now'.

Answer that one first.

Burnout sounds like a crisis. What you have got is quieter than that - the kind of tired that does not go away on a weekend.

You are still showing up. Still performing. Nobody at work would guess.

That is not resilience. That is a baseline that has slipped so far you have stopped noticing where it used to sit.

FLOW is free. It is short, it is practical, and it is grounded in what the research actually says about burnout and capacity rather than what a wellness app thinks.

Where exactly is your 7% going?

Not 'work is busy'. The specific thing.

Because if you are quietly cracking, you are running at about 93% of yourself and the missing 7% has gone somewhere. It is going into absorbing something. Managing a person. Compensating for a gap that was never yours to fill. Holding a load at home that did not shrink when your hours grew.

The ABS found Australian women spend 4 hours 53 minutes a day on unpaid work, against 3 hours 52 minutes for men. An hour a day, every day. Meanwhile women's workforce participation hit a record 63.1% in 2025, with no corresponding drop in the unpaid load.

Name where yours is going. You cannot renegotiate a cost you have never counted.

You meant to leave four years ago.

You knew it the day you finished something big and felt absolutely nothing. And you have thought about going roughly eleven thousand times since, usually somewhere between the car park and your desk.

There is a name for it now. Job hugging. It is the biggest workplace story in Australia this year, and almost every article written about it is addressed to your employer rather than to you.

Nobody is asking what it costs the woman doing the hugging. So here are four questions that do.

Answer them honestly rather than aspirationally. The last one usually lands hardest, because staying can be a strategy and staying can be fear wearing a strategy's clothes, and from the outside those two look identical.

The difference is not what you do. It is whether you chose it, and whether it has an end date.

Still turning up. Slowly coming apart.

Quiet quitting was doing the job and nothing more. A protest.

Quiet cracking is not that. It is still turning up, still delivering, still saying yes, and slowly coming apart underneath it while nobody notices. Least of all you.

More than half of Australian workers are doing it right now. They are still producing 93% of their normal output, and they are 6.2 times more likely to burn out.

So this week, one question. Where exactly is your 7% going? Not 'work is busy'. The specific thing.
