Soul Compass

Soul Compass Career & Life Coach, Counsellor. Rebel with a cause. 7300 words. Hilariously, that’s how long my first version of this profile was. Ta da! Truly. I wasn’t.

I set myself a challenge to squash it into a three sentence summary. Aspiring teenage musician has existential crisis after controlling grandmother tells devastating lie which leads to decades of enmeshment, bullying and making bad choices with men. Survives near death experience in childbirth, autoimmune disease & the hiding of authentic self while becoming serial career changer & doing well paid

, prestigious roles purely for money & because of lack of sound decision making processes, lack of self awareness & lack of direction. Hits thirty & finally feels deserving of doing something for self, so trains in polarity therapy & counselling then becomes a specialist career and life coach helping people work out what to be when they grow up (all while dabbling in piano, stand-up comedy & quantum theory.) There’s obviously a ton of detail missing but the message is I have lived a life. And learned a lot from every experience. Even the car accident, even the failed marriages, even the workplace bullying. That lived experience makes me an excellent, intuitive, straight shooting coach for anyone who wants to make great choices by understanding what it is that lights you up. We take quite a trip together, a journey inward to discover internal drivers rather than finding external things to direct you. Once we reassess your career and life situation, we work out how to reinvent you & your personal brand to align with your new direction. Then you can re-imagine your whole life … so dream big! Of course, I could just write you a resume. But then you never get to work out the great stuff. Like what or who you’re saying yes to that you would rather not. What or who you’re saying no to that you deeply regret not pursuing. And what the risk is of having all you desire. Coaches are a dime a dozen so it’s important you find the right one. I’m a good fit for anyone prepared to do the work and commit to change & growth—corporates, mothers looking to recreate careers, top execs who want something more meaningful. And I’m a specialist transition coach for personnel leaving the defence force. Are you willing to die with your music still in you? Being smart is one thing. But without the integration of knowledge of your heart, you know nothing. Emotional intelligence is Queen. Faith in life, forgiveness, trust, compassion are all you need to start to return to you. If you want to talk about better processes for choosing your career & life, I’d love to connect.

When you have nothing but English breakfast tea...

Results from my survey of midlife women are in.

The information shared was raw and real, and spoke to a depth of challenges that are existential in nature, and require a system wide overhaul to properly redress. It also spoke to a resilience in women and a willingness to work within current constraints to pursue purpose, leave a legacy and provide a sustainable future for themselves.

It certainly captured the stories I have heard time and time again, as well as echoed some of my own experiences. The data paints a picture that cannot be ignored.

Changing careers isn't just about updating your resume. It's a full process - and most people skip the steps that matter most.
After working with professionals navigating career transitions, I've found it comes down to 5 P's:
🔹 Personal Brand - And this is the one I see overlooked most, especially for women in midlife. Before anything else, you need to reconnect with who you are NOW. Not who you were 10 or 20 years ago. Recalibrating your sense of self and your career identity in this new season is the foundation everything else is built on.
🔹 Proximity - Strategically build relationships with people in the space you want to move into
🔹 Position - Use your resume as a positioning tool, not just a career history. Shape how the market sees you before you even walk in the door.
🔹 Presence - Show up confidently in interviews and let your value speak for itself
🔹 Prosper - Negotiate an offer that truly reflects your worth
Skip any one of these and the whole process feels harder than it needs to be. But skip Personal Brand? And you'll find yourself applying for roles that don't actually fit who you're becoming.
If you're a woman in midlife thinking about a career change and want a clear roadmap, let's chat. This is exactly what I help people work through.
What step do you find hardest? I'd love to know ↓

Can we talk about something nobody actually talks about honestly?

Menopause doesn't begin in your ovaries. It begins in your brain. The ovaries just respond to what the brain is already doing. Which means treating it purely as a hormone problem is always going to be incomplete.

HRT can help - I'm on it, I know the difference it makes and I know the constant bloody adjusting it takes. But it doesn't stop what's happening at the source. It just gives you a bit more bandwidth to cope with it.

And for a lot of women - more than anyone realises - there's something else happening at the same time.

ADHD that was never diagnosed. Autism that was masked for decades. AuDHD (both, like me) that only became impossible to hide when the oestrogen that was quietly holding the whole compensatory structure together started dropping.

If that resonates with you at all — even a little — I wrote about this properly.

The neuroscience. The late diagnosis reality. What sniper alley actually means for our health. Why the band-aids help but don't fix. And what genuinely does.

Tag a woman who needs to read this. Or just save it for a day when you're wondering if you're losing your mind — you're not, but it would help to understand what's actually happening.

Menopause begins in the brain, not the ovaries. Understand why HRT alone isn't enough - and what ADHD, autism and AuDHD mean for women in midlife.
