Did anyone else watch Spotlight on Channel 7 about ultra-processed foods? 😳
I’d genuinely love to know, what did you think?
I’ve just finished watching it, and it really got me thinking about how difficult it can be to simply be a consumer trying to make the right choices for yourself and your family.
We walk into a supermarket and see words like healthy, natural, high protein, low fat, no added sugar… but what do they actually mean? How do we know what’s truly a better choice when there are so many ingredients, claims and conflicting messages?
And when you start questioning whether the systems and regulations we assume are there to protect us are actually keeping pace with what we now know about highly processed foods, it can feel pretty overwhelming.
But I don’t think the answer is fear or trying to eat “perfectly”.
I think it’s about learning, understanding and making better choices where we can. 🌿
Maybe that means we start with simple supermarket swaps.
🥣 What’s a better breakfast cereal?
🍞 Which bread should I choose?
🍫 What about snacks for the kids?
🥫 Sauces and pantry staples?
🥤 Drinks?
🍪 Lunchbox options?
🛒 What ingredients should I actually be looking for on a label?
Maybe this is something we need to do more of at Pura Vida Health.
We could start sharing supermarket swaps, teaching you how to read labels, comparing everyday products and showing you realistic alternatives, without judgement and without expecting everyone to completely overhaul their life overnight.
And this is also exactly why having a local health food shop matters.
At Pura Vida, we really do try to source the best products we possibly can so that when you walk through our doors, there are options that can help make choosing better food a little easier.
We won’t always get everything perfect, but we can keep asking questions, keep learning and help each other make more informed choices. 🤍
So tell me…
Did you watch Spotlight? What surprised you the most?
