In my own yoga practice over the years, I have found hands-on assists and adjustments (aka physical touch!) very supportive.
Sometimes it can help to find a slightly deeper or softer shape. Sometimes it can help to find a slightly different alignment and see how that feels in my body. Sometimes it can make me feel safe enough to try something I'd be afraid to do without someone there to hold or catch me.
We understand that touch can be a big thing, especially in a group yoga class.
While our philosophy at the studio is to offer hands-on support in our classes, it is definitely not required! Your space is your space, and we will only touch you with your consent.
Some teachers will check verbally in some way if you are comfortable with touch, and others may use "permission cards" (pictured). When you notice a permission card next to your mat, you can flip it to the side that corresponds to what you want, changing your mind at any point.
If we do offer you a hands-on adjustment that doesn't feel good (even though you had indicated that you were okay with it!) you can of course ask a teacher to stop. We will not be offended, we are not precious, we are there to support you 💛
