“Self-love is not just about constantly giving yourself praise and telling yourself how awesome you are. It’s about loving the real you, the human you - the person who has feet of clay, who comes undone under criticism, who sometimes fails and disappoints others. It’s about making a commitment to yourself that you will stick by yourself - even if no one else does. That’s what I mean when I say you must love yourself as though your life depends on it, because quite simply, I know without a doubt that it does.”

Hold the mother, not the baby.⁣

Because the baby’s being taken care of—⁣
fed, snuggled, and given all the love in the world—⁣
by not only the mother,⁣
but her partner, grandparents, siblings, cousins, and friends.⁣

But the mother,⁣
may have gaps in her mind from lack of sleep,⁣
may be mechanical in her motions as she’s healing,⁣
may feel more like a mess than a mother,⁣
may be sitting in bed, crying, feeling overwhelmed in her body and life,⁣
may be full of mom guilt because in her mind, "she's not good enough,"⁣
and she’s bleeding, wincing in pain, swollen and emotional.⁣

And the mother’s that baby's whole world and needs to be seen, so she doesn't disappear into that postpartum fog.⁣

So, hold the mother, not the baby.⁣

A mother agrees that her baby matters more.⁣
But she’s hurting, while she’s the person behind the baby,⁣
in the background, making it all happen:⁣
feeding her baby at all hours,⁣
snuggling her baby close to comfort newborn cries,⁣
and being that baby’s everything.⁣

So, it’s the mother who needs your love.⁣

And a mother will remember who held her up.⁣

So instead of “I’m coming to see the baby,”⁣
try saying, “I’m coming to see you 𝘢𝘯𝘥 meet the baby, too.”⁣

Because the mother needs to be held more.⁣

Today in The Wellness Podcast we continue our exploration of this potent book as we explore and discuss the story of La Loba.
We contemplate the symbolism of the story, the bones, and the desert, and how it applies to our lives.

La Loba, the bone mother. She is eternal, ageless, and always waiting for us to reclaim our lost selves.

How do we reclaim aspects of our lost selves?

The answer lays in sacred ritual, this helps connect us to our inner landscapes and archetypes.

La Loba is the story of the Bone Woman. The woman who holds your stories, and waits patiently for you to reclaim her.

Our Story

Hello and Welcome to my corner of cyber space. My name is Catherine Argyros, I am an acupuncturist, TCM practitioner, Yoga teacher, Body Worker, and Mum. Why do I call myself The Barefoot Doctor? noun: A lay health care worker, especially in rural China, trained to perform tasks such as providing first aid, assisting in childbirth, and dispensing drugs. http://www.yourdictionary.com/barefoot-doctor In days long past, the Chinese medicine practitioner was a wandering doctor. Someone who utilized the surrounding area for herbs and medicines. They worked in conjunction with the seasons and their immediate environment. ‘All within a days walk’, was the term used to describe the herbs and tools they utilized in their path. This created a seasonal approach that was intimately linked with their landscape. Further more, in those days they were paid when their client was well not sick. How revolutionary! This truly supports a wellness industry. I would like to see a return to this preventative measure as well understand and appreciate, prevention is better than cure. Wellness is not just about living well, its about living in harmony with our landscape both within and without. Its about being responsible, empowered, and self aware. Finally, as a yoga instructor and birth support person I often find myself barefooted. This keeps me grounded in a role that is of service to my clients. Evolution depends on humanity returning to a simpler life. As we increasingly living further and further away from nature and this broken connection results in disease on many levels. Its my aim to help others reclaim their connection and live with awareness. I offer to do this with on line support, workshops and retreats, covering such topics as 'Learning to live in accordance with nature' 'our bodies natural rhythms' 'green living' and 'weight loss and de tox' and Yoga. I have over 15 years clinical experience, but am always learning new skills that can help my clients live the healthy life they want. I specialize in musculoskeletal conditions, women's health, pre and post natal care. I run women's circles and meditation groups. You can find me here: http://www.botanicamedicines.com.au/practitioner/catherine-argyros My approach is to nourish the body and spirit and find yin yang harmony. This requires living in accordance to nature, seasonal eating and treating the body like a temple. Wholesome foods, yoga, meditation, detox and ritual are some of the tools that you can use to have an impact on your body, spirit and mind. We nurture the spiritual awakening that evolves when living in harmony with the elements. I hear a lot of dis-empowered speak when it comes to people and their health. There is a lot of confusion due to the misinformation out in the media. I do believe in lots of ways its not as hard or expensive as people think. There is also a big link between the state of our health and the state of our planet. This page forms part of my community service where I hope to share simple truths and wisdom that may help us in the short and long term. Welcome.
