Are you wondering what vaccines you are needing and when to get them?

Below we have summarised the State and Nationally Government Funded vaccines:

PATIENTS AGED 65 YEARS AND OVER
• Pneumococcal vaccine – "Capvaxive" – Single dose 1 year after any other pneumococcal vaccine has been given (Prevenar 13 or Pneumovax 23)
• Shingles vaccine – "Shingrix" – Two doses 2-6 months apart
• Influenza vaccine – "Fluad" – Single dose annually
• Covid vaccine – recommended annually (eligible every 6 months)

PATIENTS AGED 75 YEARS AND OVER
• RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) vaccine – "Arexvy" – Single dose
• Covid vaccine – recommended every 6 months

You may also be eligible for earlier vaccines if you are:
• Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people
• Immunocompromised
OR
• If you may have medical risk factors

We are delighted to welcome Dr Alex Zucchi to our Lauderdale Medical Centre team!

Alex grew up in Hobart and is a graduate of the University of Tasmania. He worked across hospitals in the north-west of the state and Hobart before moving to general practice. Alex has a particular interest in caring for the elderly and palliative care as well as chronic disease management, but enjoys seeing the whole range of general practice. Outside of work Alex enjoys birdwatching, photography, and woodworking.

Alex will be starting on the 30th of July 2026 working Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We are delighted to now welcome Dr Nicola Marshall to the Lauderdale Medical Centre team!

Originally from Tasmania, Nicola is a GP registrar who has recently returned home after studying and working throughout rural and regional NSW, Canberra and Darwin. She enjoys general practice for its medical variety, and the opportunity to get to know her patients and build long-term relationships. Her interests lie in preventative care and chronic disease management, and in supporting her patients to manage their own health around all that life throws at us. Outside of work she might be found baking, making music, orienteering, or spending time with friends and family.
Nicola will be working Monday, Wednesday and Thursday starting on 3rd of August.

💉 Free Government Funded Diphtheria Vaccination Now Available

We’re pleased to let our patients know that fully subsidised Diphtheria Vaccines are now available for eligible people travelling to higher risk areas, including:
• Northern Territory
• South Australia
• Western Australia
• Queensland

If you’re planning travel to these regions, you may be eligible for a free vaccine as part of your routine travel health protection.

Check with your GP to see if you are eligible.

We are delighted to now welcome Dr Lawrence Owen to the Lauderdale Medical Centre team! 🩺

Dr Larry grew up in Hobart before studying and training locally. He enjoys the variety and complexity that General Practice offers but has particular interest in the management of chronic diseases and musculoskeletal injuries.

Dr Larry will be consulting with us every Friday and is accepting new patients.

A Quick Update from the Team

Hey everyone! We’ve been open for over a year now, and we’re grateful for the way this community has shown their support since the beginning.

We know the cost of living is hitting hard lately, so we want to keep things simple and transparent when it comes to access to your primary care. Moving forward, we are offering bulk billing for patients of the following groups:

• Patients aged 16 and under
• Patients aged 75 and over
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a concession card
• Full time enrolled students

We are so pleased to announce that Lauderdale Medical Centre is now offering skin checks! 🔎

Skin checks are an important part of early detection and prevention of skin cancer, especially in Australia where rates of skin cancer are among the highest in the world.

Appointments are now available with Dr Marita Jones. During your consultation, Dr Marita will carefully assess your skin, review any concerns, and provide guidance on ongoing skin health and sun safety.

We are thrilled to introduce you to the newest GP to the team - Dr Malcolm Braddock

Malcolm grew up locally and completed his medical training in Tasmania. He has a particular interest in acute care, chronic disease management and preventative healthcare. Malcolm is working Monday and Wednesday at Lauderdale and part time at the Lindisfarne Clinic. Outside of work he enjoys the Hobart food scene, cooking, skiing and surfing.

Malcolm started at the clinic today running our first flu clinic for the season with a whopping 150 flu vaccinations delivered!

We’re thrilled to have him on board and know he'll make a great addition to the team.

Flu Vaccination or the FluMist Nasal Spray option for kids

With flu season around the corner, we’re running flu clinics in April with two options for children:

1. Free Flu Vaccinations
Under the current guidelines, the flu injection is free for:
✅ All children aged 6 months to under 5 years.
✅ Children of any age with certain medical conditions (e.g. severe asthma, diabetes, or heart disease).
✅ All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

2. The "No-Needle" Option: FluMist Nasal Spray
Does your child dread needles? FluMist is a nasal spray that provides the same high level of protection as the traditional flu shot.
Who: Suitable for children and teens aged 2–17 years.
Why: Quick, painless, and stress-free.
Cost: While FluMist is not government-funded in Tasmania, it is available at our clinic for $50 per dose.

Which one is right for my child?
Both the nasal spray and the injection are equally effective at protecting your child against the flu this winter. Whether you choose the free vaccine or the needle-free spray, the goal is the same: a healthy, happy winter!

🎉Last week we celebrated Lauderdale Medical Centre's 1st Birthday!🎉

Since opening, we’ve have provided 25,000 episodes of patient care with over 6000 patients now registered with the clinic.

This is the incredible team behind rebuilding a community centred General Practice. We also couldn’t have done it without the enduring support of our community.

With 8 of our 10 doctors still accepting new patients, we also have on-the-day appointments available everyday.
