Could you guess this porridge contains 1.5 servings of fruit ๐๐ซ, 1 serving of dairy ๐ฅ, 1.5 servings of grains ๐พ and ~1 serving of protein ๐ฅ?! It even contains some chocolate! ๐ซ
Yep, chocolate ๐คค dark chocolate is a great source of antioxidants and some research even suggests it could help lower the risk of heart disease and reduce inflammation ๐๐ป
This bowl of oats contains a combination of mashed banana and blueberries, plus some chopped dates for sweetness and added fruit intake. Some added cinnamon, nutmeg and 2 small squares of dark chocolate for some extra flavour. All this cooked in your milk of choice and finally topped with a very large tablespoon of pure peanut butter and a LOT of mixed seeds ๐
By pure peanut butter I mean no added sugar or unnecessary bits. I use Meridian Foods peanut butter as itโs 100% peanuts with no added sugar or palm oil ๐ซ
Whilst nuts and seeds donโt provide the same amount of protein or iron as other protein (๐ฅฉ๐ฅ๐๐), theyโre still a great source of energy and healthy fats and can be included in your daily protein tally.
Did you know dried fruit counts towards your fruit intake? You donโt need as much as itโs higher in sugar than fresh fruit per g, but adding some dates, sultanas or other dried fruit to your breakfast does count!
Not only is this porridge warming and filling, itโs also incredibly tasty and nutritious! Aim for diversity in your food - your gut will thank you ๐๐ป
Gone are the days of boring porridge slop ๐
๐ปโโ๏ธ Iโd wake up this any day ๐ please sir, can I have some more?!
