I want you to feel confident offering deeply nourishing foods and drinks to the newly born mamas in your life.
I want you to have a bone-deep understanding of the physiology of postpartum and a nuanced approach to each individual mama in your care.
I want you to feel solid in your pricing and to be in alignment with true reciprocity for your vital work.
I want your food to be YUMMY! Not in an overwhelming-for-the-freshly-postpartum palate but in a wowww-this-tastes-like-a-warm-hug deliciousness way. To have strategies for soup overwhelm and to be factoring JOY and oxytocin in ✨
There's work to be done, I'd love to have you join us 💛

While oxytocin itself is not unique person-to-person (it's molecular structure is essentially the same), the oxytocin system around that molecule varies MASSIVELY.

I love this tattoo artist's (Coral Nathan) creative imaginings of the molecule oxytocin - rendering it uniquely to each of their client's unique self and the things they love.

Instead of simply talking about oxytocin as "the love hormone", we can have a deeper baseline understanding of the various factors that may impact a person's oxytocin system and therefore expand our capacity to truly be with them along the birth and postpartum journey.

I geek out on anatomy and physiology, I LOVE understanding the how and why.

If you're also a curious human, you might like to come along tomorrow Sunday 6th September while I share a free 75min workshop on Oxytocin + Postpartum Digestion.

Registrations are still open (link in my bio) and recordings will be sent out to everyone who signs up 🤍

WE'VE PUT OXYTOCIN IN A VERY SMALL BOX.
BUT THE BODY DOESN'T WORK IN BOXES.

“Oxytocin” is most often referred to within the birth space.
Yes, it plays a huge role in the birthing journey.

It is a catalyst; an initiator of vital hormonal and physiological cascades.

It’s very important for us all to having a solid understanding of the role oxytocin plays in birth.

And...

Oxytocin doesn’t stop mattering once baby is born.

It interacts with the nervous system and stress response. It has relationships with the gut and digestive function. It is involved in lactation and uterine physiology, and sits within complex pathways associated with inflammation, metabolism, social connection and restorative states.

What if understanding postpartum food requires us to understand some of this physiology, too?

This is exactly what we’ll be exploring

THIS SUNDAY 06/09/26 in

“Beyond the Bowl — Oxytocin + Postpartum Digestion”

It's wild to sit with the fact that every single human being was created and cradled within the bones of the female pelvis 🤍

In many esoteric and traditional medicine systems (including Ayurveda and TCM) there is an emphasis on the energy flow between the heart and the womb. There is also an acknowledgement of the immense creative energy of the womb-space, which is not necessarily tied to only the anatomical structure of the womb itself.

Physically, it's also interesting to me that the pelvic region is a female's centre of gravity (approx 8-15% lower than that of a male) and that this difference allows the female body to maintain their balance during pregnancy.

I then think about disruptions to the optimal alignment and functioning of the pelvis and pelvic area. Of trauma to this area of the body, in the myriad of ways trauma can be experienced and metabolised by each person, and the profound medicine of being held and understood on a level that transcends judgement and agenda and ego.

Having a pelvis that essentially ripped open and remained open and unacknowledged for years, I can attest to the fact that it not only felt like unbearable pain and an inner, persistent sense of 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨, 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨.
It was also felt in my body as an energetic hemorrhage, a total permeability and a sense of my whole being feeling so radically unsupported.

I've been loving reading David Bedrick's books lately... His explorations of "shame" and the multitude of explicit and subtle ways that shame shows up in our lives, and even in the way we hold and care for the people around us... It's been both an unsettling and profound revelation.

I can feel the way that even the contemplation of "shame" and the ongoing deconstruction of the layers of my internalised shame, has positively impacted my work.

I just feel like collectively people are DROWNING in self-judgement and the bitter poison of shame.

Even (especially?) in the pursuit of "healing" there is so much implicit shame and "I am inherently not enough"

Maaaaan... Being alive is such a beautiful, wild trip 🤍
