This buckwheat porridge recipe has been a recent addition to our early morning brekkie’s. Our 1 yr old kiddo is going through a scrambled egg hating phase, which used to be our go to ! He started loving buckwheat porridge so I decided to sneak some egg in there and it’s been a hit, for him and my first breakfast 😄

It’s got creamy custardy, apple, rice pudding kind of vibes. It’s grain free, and can be made dairy free.

I cook a few batches of buckwheat through the week and have a container of it on hand in the fridge. Also poach a big batch of apples to store in the fridge / freezer in smaller containers.

This recipe makes one adult serving which I usually share with my son.

Ingredients:
• 1 tbsp butter or coconut oil
• 3/4 cup cooked buckwheat groats presoaked overnight
• 1 tbsp desiccated coconut
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• 1/4 cup poached apple liquid
• 1 whisked egg
• 2 pinches salt
• 1 tsp soaked chia seeds
• 2-3 tbsp poached apples
• 1 tbsp Greek yoghurt (or a sour coconut yoghurt)

To prepare your stash of buckwheat for the fridge:
Soak 1.5 cups of buckwheat overnight in water with 2 tbsps apple cider vinegar or lemon juice. (An important step to help break down phytic acid in the seeds and make the nutrients more available).
After soaking, drain the buckwheat in a sieve and rinse well. Add to a saucepan with 2.5 cups water and cook over low heat, until the water has mostly absorbed.

Other prep. I’d recommend cooking a big batch of apples once. You can freeze the extra in small batches for weeks to come.
Chop apples, add to a pot with enough water to cover apples, add cinnamon, star anise, some ground ginger and any other spices you like.

To make the porridge.
Heat a saucepan over medium heat, add butter to melt.
Reduce heat to low, add the cooked buckwheat with 1/4 cup of the apple liquid, cinnamon and desiccated coconut to warm through.
Add the whisked egg and stir continuously for 3-4 minutes or until the porridge starts to thicken. It should be a creamy consistency but not runny.
Stir in the apple, yoghurt, soaked chia seeds and stir well. Serve up warm 🧡

You could also add some other warming spices like turmeric and nutmeg.

This just about sums up the last few months of our time here before heading to Tasmania in a few days!

Farming and mumming turns out to be a really fulfilling mix, but pretty tiring too 😂

This week was my first 2 days back working a job since becoming a mum one year ago!
It felt strange leading up to it, like I was doing my son wrong by leaving him. There was constant chit chat in my head about whether or not it was right. But after the first day I had the best feeling in my body, and realised how much I needed this time to myself, to have a different sense of purpose outside of the big, beautiful role of being a mum, and have a little bit of freedom. Plus little man did surprisingly well without me and ate lots of yummy food I prepped for him 😊

I’m getting my hands dirty in a local biodynamic market garden which feels so awesome, moving my body, back in touch with the elements, grounding all day 💚

It feels like a gap has been filled, and I can show up for Boudewijn with a different energy 🙏☀️

Feeling a full heart after connecting with the most grounded, beautiful women at the Braidwood Beltane Campout over the weekend.

It was such a delight to be in this environment, having real conversations, feeling safe to share, be heard and held, dance in mud, create, move and sing to the bush and land that held us.

I feel honoured to have been a part of this magic that happened on Yuin country. Thank you for working so hard to create this. And to all of the beauties for holding space for us, in your workshops and sessions. 🧡

I’m mostly a savoury brekkie fan these days but it’s a porridge kind of morning 🌧 I soaked oat groats for 2 days, and they ended up fermenting and tasting deliciously sour. I also added a small handful of rolled oats for the last 12 hrs of soaking to get the porridge nice and creamy. Cooked over very low heat (hardly simmering) with a few pinches of salt, cinnamon, ghee & vanilla extract.

Topped with more ghee (added fat helps keep you satiated for longer and makes the flavours sing!), roasted apples in coconut oil w cardamom & blueberries, toasted seeds and fresh thyme.

It was an extra warming and yummy bowl after a long night 🤪😋

Hello! I noticed there are some new faces joining my journey here so I wanted to say thanks for joining and tell you a bit about what I live for 😊

I’m Georgie. I’m deeply in love with cooking, growing food, hiking and being outside. I recently became a mama 6 months ago and have been on the most fulfilling journey of getting totally nerdy and passionate about physiological birth, nutrition for pregnancy and postpartum nourishment. I have been sinking into the bliss and realness of motherhood, pondering how nourishment looks and feels while I was pregnant, and now breastfeeding and mothering.

Supporting and guiding women to nourish themselves through pregnancy and postpartum and avoid depletion is my mission 🌻

Food was and is such a healing and eye opening element to my pregnancy and postpartum experience. Tuning into my body and navigating my mental and emotional journey through it all has also been really big in my mama journey.

I’m really excited to offer women support through their own unique journey.

In my coaching I offer guidance and support in:

🧡 Connecting with your body and finding the foods and rhythms that work for YOUR body, wherever you are in your journey
🧡 Whole food nutrition education
🧡 Preparation, sourcing and seasonal eating guidance
🧡 Eating to support your energy
🧡 Techniques to manage stress
🧡 Pregnancy and postpartum food prep guidance
🧡 Connecting with the source of your food and finding joy in food
🧡 Whole food recipes that are gluten, refined carb and sugar free

This photo was taken by my love after a beautiful ceremony burying my son’s placenta on Yuin Country 🌿feeling big feelings!

Big love,
Georgie xx

Preparing some nibbles for our road trip this weekend! Taking our little man for his first camping trip ⛺️🌿😊

We’re always looking for something to snack on while we’re travelling, and and I often struggle to find snacks that don’t have vegetable oil, sugar or preservatives in them.

These are some of my favourite things to make for trips.

Liver pate
Beetroot dip (steamed beets, tahini, olive oil, garlic, cumin, lemon, ACV & salt)
Pumpkin soup with bone broth
Seeded seaweed crackers with caraway
Toasted coconut trail mix with cinnamon & salt

The role of food in postpartum recovery is something I’m super passionate about, and I strongly believe it’s one huge aspect in reducing the chances of postnatal depletion. So I thought I would share what I prioritised for my postpartum meal preparations!

🤎 Warming, wet, cooked foods: for ease of digestion and to help rebuild blood and warmth in the body after losing the warmth of blood, baby, fluids and your placenta after birth. Raw, cold or dry foods are difficult digest and do not help produce warmth or support blood production in your postpartum body
🤎 Plenty of pasture raised animal fats for brain health, essential vitamins and minerals, to enhance nutrient absorption and for longer lasting store of energy and satiation
🤎 Bone broth (almost every meal made with this) for it’s collagen and glutamine to help rebuild tendons, ligaments, tissues and organs and support digestive system
🤎 Quality pasture raised animal meats/ products to avoid toxic burden and ensure the best nutrients
🤎 Foods rich in iron to help restore lost iron from growing baby and blood loss during birth. Liver pate, red meat, beef heart and eggs where high on my list which are rich in heme iron (a more readily available form of iron than plant based iron)
🤎 Warming spices in curries, stews and soups to help build warmth and blood
