September is FASD Awareness Month ❤️

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a lifelong disability that can affect each person differently, including learning, communication, memory, emotional regulation and everyday life.

FASD Awareness Month is an opportunity to increase understanding, reduce stigma and recognise the importance of providing the right support for individuals and families.

A little more awareness can help create more inclusive, understanding and supportive communities. ❤️

What matters to you? 💚

Sometimes the most important conversations are the ones we tend to put off.

Talking about your wishes, the people you trust and what’s important to you can help make sure your voice is heard, now and into the future.

It doesn’t have to be a big conversation. Sometimes, simply starting is enough. 💬

🧠 Brain Injury Awareness Week | 17–23 August 2026

This Brain Injury Awareness Week, we’re helping shine a light on brain injury and the many different experiences of people living with its impacts.

Brain injury can affect people in different ways, and the effects aren’t always visible. Awareness, understanding and inclusion can make a meaningful difference in helping people feel supported and connected within their community. 💚

This week is an opportunity to:
🧠 Learn more about brain injury
💚 Listen to and recognise lived experience
🤝 Support greater inclusion and understanding
💬 Start conversations that help reduce stigma
🌱 Recognise the experiences, perspectives and contributions of people living with brain injury

Together, we can help build a more understanding and inclusive community. 💚

Getting out and being part of community days like the Maitland Disability Expo reminds us exactly why we do what we do. 💚

Maggie and Jenny had such a wonderful day reconnecting with familiar faces, meeting new people and sharing so many meaningful conversations.

Whether you stopped by to learn more about our services, ask a question or simply say hello, thank you for taking the time to connect with us. Every conversation and every new connection strengthens our community and makes days like these so special.

It was a truly great day, and we hope to see you all again soon!

Support Coordination, in the places you feel most comfortable. 🤍

At Hunter Ability Support, we understand that the most meaningful conversations do not always happen behind a desk.

Our Support Coordinators have the flexibility to meet participants where they feel most comfortable and supported - whether that is at home, in a favourite café, out in the community, or somewhere familiar and relaxed.

Often, that is where the real magic happens. When people feel comfortable, heard and supported, conversations flow more naturally, genuine relationships can develop, and goals can feel more achievable.

Because Support should fit around the participant, not the other way around.

Supporting people through every stage of life’s journey. 💚

Hunter Ability Support is proud to be attending Dying to Know Day 2026 again this year. We value attending this event annually, as it is a highly informative and resourceful day for people with disability, older people, families, carers and support workers.

The event encourages open conversations around palliative care, ageing, planning, choice, dignity and support, while providing valuable information for everyone involved.

Stop by, say hello and learn more about the services and supports we offer throughout the Hunter.

🐕‍🦺 International Assistance Dog Week | 2–8 August 2026

This International Assistance Dog Week, we're celebrating the incredible role assistance dogs play in helping people live with greater independence, confidence and inclusion.

Assistance dogs are highly trained working partners that support their handlers in many aspects of everyday life, including:
💚 Accessing the community
💚 Travelling safely
💚 Employment and education
💚 Building independence
💚 Participating in everyday activities

If you see an assistance dog in public, remember:
🐾 Give them space.
🐾 Don't pat, feed or distract them.
🐾 Speak to the handler, not the dog.
🐾 Respect their right to access public places.

A small act of awareness can make a big difference.

Let's work to create communities where assistance dog teams are welcomed, respected and supported. 🐾💚
