#4 - Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
These are healing modalities and therapies that I have personally tried and found to be helpful in my journey with complex trauma.
Because I am a sensory-verbal processor who loses spoken language skills when stressed, talk therapy is difficult and somewhat pointless for me. Fortunately, there are many bottom-up styles of therapies!
1. Sandtray Therapy - for social anxiety and for working through specific traumatic incidents
2. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) - for fast relief after a shock trauma, flashback, or disturbing dream
3. Occupational Therapy (OT) - for basic self-care skills, communication and social skills, and sensory integration techniques
4. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy - for nervous system integration especially treating "stuck" energy in the body and restoring gentle flow
5. Music therapy - for safe expressions of intense feelings through or with music
6. Yoga - for mind-body integration
7. Partner dancing - for concentrated co-regulation, mirroring, and nervous system balance
8. Somatic Experiencing Therapy- for learning how to track felt senses, feelings, and body sensations without getting overwhelmed
9. Internal Family Systems Therapy - for learning how to communicate compassionately with parts of our self such as our inner child or protector parts
10. The Safe and Sound Protocol - for increasing neurological capacity to be in safe and social mode (I recommend a much slower pace for ND folks than the typical schedule. A few minutes every couple days instead of 1 hour a day on consecutive days.)
💚 Co-regulation with a therapist, practitioner, teacher, or coach is the foundation that allows any of these to work effectively. Co-regulation via technology such as phone or zoom is effective enough for most individuals. (Even though some chemical and magnetic cues are missed, we are usually able to get enough safety cues from soft gaze and/or prosodic vocalizations for our mirror neurons to match the other persons calm state.)
💚 Are there any other types of therapies you have personally experienced as helpful? If you would like to add to this list, please name the type of therapy or healing modality as well as what it is useful for.
🦋 I'm hosting a set of workshops on The Neuroscience of Community & C-PTSD on October 21 & 23 at 1pm Eastern Time. We’ll be learning about the biological and social reasons that C-PTSD exists as well as how we can heal both individually and collectively.
This is for both ND people and professionals. My classes are a unique space where we get to interact as peers without hierarchy. Recordings are shared the next day.

🧠I make infographics to be used as teaching tools (linktr.ee/TraumaGeek). These are free to access and view. PDF copies are also available for professionals. My goal for these is to help Neurodivergents, parents, educators, and healing professionals understand the diverse and complex ways that ND humans process input from their world including traumatic events.
