If you’ve been on a restrictive diet- think keto, carnivore, or low FODMAP for more than 3 months, this is important!

Restrictive diets don’t just change what you eat. Over time, they change who’s living in your gut. Beneficial bacteria depend on plant foods to survive. Starve them long enough, and pathogenic species take over. These pathogenic species are far better at metabolising proteins and fats, and they produce toxic byproducts like ammonia and sulphides as a result.

Those byproducts drive visceral hypersensitivity, meaning your gut becomes so reactive that reintroducing plant foods feels awful. Bloating, pain, discomfort. It can feel like plants are making you sick, when really your gut has lost the capacity to process them.

The damage is real. But it’s also reversible, if you know what you’re doing. Reach out if you want more information.

Are you actually constipated without knowing it?

Most people think constipation means you can’t go at all, but if you’re not going daily (Ideally twice), if it’s unpredictable, if you aren’t fully clearing your bowels and if it takes ages on the toilet you may be constipated.

If these are missing from your life it’s best to start here:
👉 Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes- every single day
👉 Water- because fibre without it is basically concrete
👉 Movement

But if you'’e ticked all those boxes and things are still not moving, (or fibre is actually making you worse) that'’ your body asking for a deeper look.

Bloating on fibre. Discomfort. No relief. That'’ not a fibre deficiency. That'’ a gut that needs investigating. 🔬

As a gut health naturopath I use functional testing to find out exactly what’s going on inside- so we stop guessing and start fixing.

Weight loss!

GLP-1 medications mimic a hormone your gut should be making naturally.

Healthy gut bacteria, good blood sugar control and proper digestion all help regulate GLP-1 and inturn support a healthy weight.

If those aren’t working, injections may help short-term, but they don’t fix the issues within the system.

I felt like something a little different today for breakfast…
Inspired by I made a chocolate Beetroot breakfast slice.
It was delicious- quite moist, not like cake but I like it like that. ** Can confirm I went back for 3rds!

1x can coconut milk
2 tablespoons chia seeds
1 teaspoon apple-cider vinegar
115 g (1 ⁄ 3 cup) maple syrup
80 ml (1 ⁄ 3 cup) olive oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
pinch of sea salt
200 g (2 cups) quick oats- I changed to 1x cup rolled oats, 2/3 C buckwheat and 1/3 walnuts - blended up.
40 g cacao powder
1 teaspoon bicarb soda (baking soda)
1 teaspoon baking powder
2x small peeled and grated beetroot
2 medium pears, peeled and diced small
60 g dark chocolate chips (these can be subbed, I used grated cark choc)
1–2 tablespoons raw cane sugar (optional)
yoghurt, or ice cream, to serve

Preheat the oven to 160°C fan-forced and grease a 20 × 26 cm (8 × 10¼ in, or thereabouts) ovenproof dish with coconut oil or butter.

Combine the coconut milk, chia seeds and apple-cider vinegar in a bowl and allow it to curdle. Add the maple syrup, olive oil, vanilla, oats and a pinch of sea salt to the wet mixture. Sift in the cacao powder, baking soda and baking powder and give it a big stir. Add the beetroot and choc chips and give it another big stir, then fold in the pear.

Pour the mixture into the prepared dish and sprinkle with sugar, if using. Bake for 1 hour, rotating your tray about halfway through cooking.

Remove from the oven and allow to sit for 10 minutes before scooping from the dish and topping with spoonfuls of yoghurt.

2025 was a year of growth, deeper understanding and feeling more aligned - personally and professionally ✌️

Professionally it has been my biggest growth year. I have supported and connected with so many incredible individuals- reinforcing why I love what I do 🤗

I spent the year studying and deepening my microbiome knowledge with Jason Hawrelak to become an Advanced Microbiome Practitioner.

Spent an amazing weekend in Sydney for the Nat expo and completed many more online seminars.

Overcame my fear of public speaking to present at 2 events.

Personally it was an emotional year for me- with my beautiful girl graduating Primary School (still not ready for this) and my youngest about to start school. My oldest (14) visited Taiwan for a school trip that he funded mostly himself 💪
I wish I could freeze time and keep them young 🙏 We had some beautiful family times, which I will continue to treasure ❤️

Im so excited to see what 2026 throws at me 🫣 I’m looking forward to meeting and supporting more incredible humans and continuing to grow and learn- both professionally and personally.

✨My intention for 2026 is to create more space for reflection and quiet, which does not come easy for me 😝
