🎡 Royal Adelaide Show update! 🎠

This Friday, I’ll be heading to the Show with Tyler Evans and Hayden. I’m happy with our little crew, so this outing is now fully booked!

Because I’ll probably be busy eating overpriced show food and trying not to lose everyone in the crowds, there won’t be any Friday Night Socials this week. 😂

However, if you’re really keen to get out, let me know and we may be able to organise a small group with Mia.

That’s all for this Friday—have a great week, everyone! 👍

Zenith stole my phone and started making videos… apparently he’s in charge of our social media now! 😂📱

Peace out ✌️ and thumbs up 👍

If you’re at the Show, take a quick walk up to the lighthouse—the view is absolutely amazing! 🌅

🏏 No indoor cricket this Sunday—the ICA is closed for Father’s Day!

You should all have something better to do anyway, like spoiling your dads on their special day! 😄

We’ll be back to normal next week.

And a huge thanks to Jack for helping with my video—and completely stealing the show! 🎥⭐

So two My Mates Place archers, Camron Schultz and Chris Thompson are state open medallists in Clout Archery!!!

But what on earth is "Clout" archery?

Here's Coach Joel to explain just how cool and impressive a feat of sportsmanship it is ❤️🏹

🏹 WHAT A DAY FOR MY MATE’S PLACE ARCHERS! 🏹

This weekend marked a huge milestone for My Mate’s Place Archers — our first ever Clout Archery State Championship!

Getting the team to Kapunda was a massive undertaking, with plenty of preparation, planning and a whole lot of travel time. But every kilometre was worth it!

The boys absolutely smashed it on the day, showing the enthusiasm, determination and sportsmanship that have become such a big part of what makes our group special. We couldn’t be prouder of how they represented themselves, our club and each other. ❤️

And to top it all off, we came home with THREE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEDALS! 🥈🥉

🏆 Open Male Compound

🥈 Silver — Camron Schultz

🥉 Bronze — Chris Thompson

🏆 Barebow Compound
🥈 Silver — Coach Joel

What an incredible achievement for a group competing in their very first Clout State Championship. The results are fantastic, but honestly, watching the team get out there, give it their absolute best and support one another was the real highlight.

Couldn’t be more proud of you boys. ❤️🏹

A massive thank you to ARCHERY South Australia (ARCHERY SA) for putting on the State Championships, and to Light Archers for hosting such a great event.

And, as always, a huge shout-out to our sponsors Archery Supplies for their ongoing support of My Mate’s Place Archers. Your support helps make opportunities like this possible, and we genuinely appreciate it.

Three medals. One team. One heck of a first Clout State Championship. 🏹🔥

Bring on the next one!

🎓 NEW SCHOOL LEAVER PROGRAM – EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST 🎓

My Mates Place is currently developing a new School Leaver Program to support young people with disability as they transition from school into adult life.

Leaving school can be an exciting time, but it can also create uncertainty for young people and their families. Our aim is to provide a practical, supportive and enjoyable program that helps participants discover their strengths, develop greater independence and build meaningful pathways into adulthood.

This will not be about sitting in a classroom all day. Participants will learn through real experiences in the community, practical activities, workplace visits and opportunities to make their own decisions.

OUR MAIN PURPOSE

The program will focus on helping participants develop skills in areas such as:

✅ Employment and volunteering readiness
✅ Preparing resumes and practising interview skills
✅ Identifying personal strengths, interests and abilities
✅ Independent travel and public transport
✅ Money handling, budgeting and making purchases
✅ Understanding and using the Companion Card
✅ Cooking, shopping and practical living skills
✅ Communication and appropriate workplace behaviour
✅ Community participation
✅ Confidence, independence and decision-making
✅ Building genuine friendships and social connections

WHAT COULD THE STARTING PROGRAM LOOK LIKE?

Our proposed starting model is:

📅 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
⏰ Approximately 9:00 am–3:00 pm
👥 A small group of carefully matched participants
🤝 Generally operating at a 1:3 support ratio
📍 A combination of activities at My Mates Place and out in the community

We are considering beginning with approximately four to six participants so we can provide individual attention while also creating the friendships and shared experiences that are central to My Mates Place.

The final structure will depend on the interests, goals, abilities and support needs of the young people involved.

POSSIBLE WEEKLY STRUCTURE

💼 Tuesday – Employment and Personal Development

Participants may work on:

* Recognising their interests, strengths and abilities
* Preparing a resume
* Practising interviews and workplace conversations
* Learning about workplace expectations and routines
* Visiting local businesses and exploring different industries
* Investigating employment, volunteering and training opportunities

🏠 Wednesday – Independent Living Skills

Activities may include:

* Budgeting and understanding everyday expenses
* Handling money and making purchases
* Planning meals, shopping and cooking
* Personal presentation, hygiene and daily routines
* Using calendars, phones and reminders
* Understanding community services and the Companion Card
* Developing organisation and problem-solving skills

🚌 Thursday – Community and Travel Skills

Participants may practise:

* Planning and completing public-transport journeys
* Reading timetables and recognising landmarks
* Visiting community locations such as libraries, the zoo, Parliament House, cafés and recreational facilities
* Ordering food and communicating with community members
* Making choices and solving unexpected problems
* Completing activities with gradually reduced prompting
* Building friendships, teamwork and confidence

While each day may have a general theme, the program will remain flexible and participant-led. Activities will be connected to each person’s individual NDIS goals wherever appropriate.

INITIAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT

Before beginning the program, we would complete a practical capacity assessment with each participant.

This may consider areas such as:

* Communication skills
* Reading, writing and basic numeracy
* Money handling
* Public-transport knowledge
* Personal care and presentation
* Following instructions and completing routines
* Decision-making and problem-solving
* Social interaction
* Workplace readiness
* Personal interests and employment aspirations
* Current levels of independence, prompting and supervision

This will help us understand each participant as an individual, plan appropriate supports and establish a starting point from which meaningful progress can be measured.

HOW WOULD WE MEASURE OUTCOMES?

We want this program to create genuine and measurable outcomes—not simply provide somewhere for participants to attend during the week.

Depending on individual goals, progress may include:

⭐ Developing or updating a resume
⭐ Identifying realistic employment or volunteering interests
⭐ Improving interview and workplace communication skills
⭐ Contacting employers, training providers or volunteer organisations
⭐ Participating in workplace visits or work-experience opportunities
⭐ Planning and completing public-transport journeys
⭐ Improving budgeting and purchasing skills
⭐ Preparing meals with greater independence
⭐ Making more confident decisions
⭐ Requiring less prompting to complete everyday tasks
⭐ Improving attendance, organisation and reliability
⭐ Developing friendships and community connections
⭐ Increasing confidence and independence

Progress would be documented and regularly reviewed with participants and their representatives.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

This program is currently in the planning and development stage, and we would love to hear from:

* Young people preparing to leave school
* Recent school leavers
* Parents and representatives
* Support coordinators
* Schools and School Support Officers
* Employers and community organisations interested in offering workplace visits, volunteering or learning opportunities

If this sounds like something you or someone you support may be interested in, please send My Mates Place a private message.

Expressions of interest will help us understand the level of demand, the goals of potential participants and the best way to structure the program.

We’re excited about the opportunity to help young people take their next steps into adult life with practical skills, greater confidence, genuine friendships and a clearer sense of direction.

My Mates Place – building confidence, independence, friendships and meaningful opportunities in the community. 💙

🏝️ KANGAROO ISLAND—HERE WE COME! 🦘

We’re very excited to announce that our My Mates Place Kangaroo Island adventure will take place from Friday, 6 November to Monday, 16 November!

We’ll pick everyone up at approximately 10:00 am on Friday, ready to travel to Cape Jervis and board the 1:30 pm SeaLink ferry. On Monday, 16 November, we’ll catch the 12:20 pm ferry home, with everyone expected to arrive home at approximately 4:00 pm.

Participant information and group planning sessions will be organised very soon. These sessions will give everyone the opportunity to help choose:

🍔 Meals and eating-out options
🦘 Activities and our trip itinerary
💰 What to pack and how much spending money to bring
🧳 Everything else needed for ten unforgettable days away!

There will be plenty more information shared during the planning sessions—but for now, start getting excited! It’s going to be an incredible trip filled with friendship, adventure, wildlife and probably at least one kangaroo wondering why we’ve taken over its island! 😂🦘

🎪 A Night at Hudson’s Circus! 🎪

Took Zenith along to Hudson’s Circus at Noarlunga last night, and what a night! We had a great time, plenty of laughs, and I’m not sure who enjoyed it more. 😂

They put on an amazing show — from the motorbikes flying around inside the cage 🏍️, to the flying trapeze 🎪, plus all the other entertainment you’d expect from a great circus.

It was a fantastic night out and something a little different for community access. I’d highly recommend getting along while they’re in the area — whether you’re looking for a family night out or an activity for someone you support.

Great entertainment, great atmosphere and plenty of smiles. 😊👏

Yesterday, Alex, Hayden and I enjoyed a tour of Parliament House.

I would highly recommend it to anyone—it was fascinating, with plenty of great information and history. We were able to sit in the different chambers and really experience Parliament House up close.

Best of all, the tour is free! We attended the 11:00 am Wednesday tour, which took a little over an hour.

If you’re looking for something free, entertaining and interesting to do, it’s definitely worth checking out!
