“Strength training isn’t really that important.”
It’s a belief that’s far more common than you might think.
Along with things like:
“I don’t want to bulk up.
That’s why I don’t strength train.”
But here’s what the science tells us:
By around age 30, we’ve reached our peak bone mass. (Yap)
From there, bone density can gradually decline, particularly for women after menopause.
We also naturally lose muscle mass as we age. Without regular resistance training, that loss can become more significant, affecting our strength, mobility and independence.
But here’s the GOOD news.
Strength training can help slow these changes, whether we’re 30, 40, 50, 60 or even 70+.
And that fear of getting bulky?
Building large amounts of muscle takes considerable time, effort and specific training. It doesn’t happen accidentally from lifting weights a couple of times a week 🙃
We’re not training to become bodybuilders.
We’re training to get off the floor without assistance.
Carry our groceries.
Play with our grandchildren.
Travel.
Stay active.
And keep doing the things we love.
It’s not about getting BIGGER.
It’s about staying STRONGER for LONGER.
Because getting older is inevitable.
Getting weaker doesn’t have to be.
If you’re in Maryborough and you’ve been putting off strength training, send us a message.
We’d love to help you get started. 🦅
