Many years ago I wrote a talk called The Circle that describes a way to achieve this. It can still be hard. It still takes work. But there are strategies that exist out there that can help us to heal our relationship with ourselves and others. And it’s ok, if we have to struggle and struggle each time - whenever something hurtful happens, whenever something hurtful is said - to struggle and to struggle against ourselves - until we reach the realisation that only we can be responsible for our feelings. And that there’s a difference between expressing and sharing our feelings positively and expressing and unloading them negatively onto others to deal with…

And sometimes it can just take a short walk in nature, or through the city, or a chat with a friend, or a run or workout, or relaxing shower, or cup-of-tea, or listening to music, or dancing… or none of these things and all of these things… while we’re struggling, to remind us of this truth and to help us get there…

And the beauty is, every time, without fail, when we realise we are responsible for our feelings, the heavy clouds lift, we feel better and we can proceed with love.
