Katherine is 25 and living her life, her way. She is studying a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Arts, spending time with her dog Buddy, and enjoying the everyday moments that make a good day.

To her, living well is about making the most of opportunities, getting out into the community, and building a life with independence, support, and choice.

This is a reminder that people are so much more than a label, they are their personalities, interests, and futures still being written.

Never underestimate Katherine, she is more than her disability.

Living in SIL under the National Disability Insurance Scheme means getting the right support while still having choice and control over your daily life. It’s not about someone running your life - it’s about support workers being there when needed, while you decide how you want to live, what your routine looks like, and how you spend your time. Independence, privacy, and personal goals still sit at the centre of everything.

Repairs in SDA are generally treated in two categories: urgent and non-urgent, but the focus is always on safety, accessibility, and participant wellbeing.

Urgent repairs should be addressed quickly after being reported, meaning ASAP depending on severity - because delays can directly impact a participant’s safety or ability to live independently.

🔧 Common urgent SDA repairs may include:
- A blocked or unusable accessible toilet
- Dangerous electrical faults or power outages
- Loss of essential services (water, hot water, electricity, gas)
- Failure of assistive technology (eg. automated doors, hoists)

If urgent repairs aren’t addressed quickly, participants can escalate the issue through their SDA provider, support coordinator and Consumer Affairs Victoria.

Non-urgent repairs are anything that doesn’t pose an immediate risk. These should still be handled within a reasonable timeframe, ensuring the property continues to meet SDA design standards and participant needs.

💡 SDA providers have a responsibility to maintain properties so they remain safe, functional, and fit for purpose, not just “liveable,” but supportive of independence.

The NDIS Commission has been granted stronger powers to protect participants and uphold the integrity of the Scheme.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment Act 2026 introduces tougher penalties for serious misconduct and unsafe practices, along with enhanced regulatory authority to prevent abuse, neglect, exploitation and fraud.

Important updates include:
- Significant increases to civil penalties for providers, now exceeding $15 million in cases where a participant is harmed
- New criminal offences, with penalties of up to 5 years’ imprisonment for ongoing and intentional breaches of safety regulations
- Expanded powers for monitoring, compliance and enforcement
-Broader banning powers, including the ability to ban auditors and consultants
- Anti-promotion orders to stop harmful or misleading services
- Stronger whistleblower protections

The Act strengthens safeguards within the NDIA, including improved fraud prevention and added protections for participants.

This reform is a major step in ensuring a safer, more accountable NDIS for all.

A little update from us 🐾

Back in December our participants Dakota and Murray adopted two of our foster kittens, Molly and Buck and what a beautiful match it’s been. They’re both doing incredibly well and have truly settled into their new home.

It’s safe to say these two are very loved and completely adored, not just by their owners but by everyone who walks through the door. 💛

Cats have such a special way of creating a calm, relaxing environment - and Molly and Buck are no exception. Their presence brings comfort, connection, and plenty of joy into their home 🏡

Fraudulent behaviour is creating uncertainty and frustration across the NDIS community.
When funding is misused or services are exaggerated, participants feel the impact first, through reduced trust, disrupted supports, and a system that becomes harder to navigate.
Honesty, accountability, and participant‑centred care remain the foundation of quality support, and upholding those values is essential for rebuilding confidence across the sector.

This high-end SDA home is designed for comfort, accessibility, and privacy, and is located in a quiet street close to all amenities.

The property features two large bedrooms, each with its own ensuite, as well as heating and cooling for year-round comfort. There are two separate living areas, providing additional space and privacy, along with ample storage throughout the home. Landscaped gardens complete the setting.
The home is fully furnished in all common areas, with all whitegoods supplied.

You will be sharing with one friendly female in her twenties. The current resident is open to either a male or female housemate of any age. She’s not necessarily looking for a best friend but would enjoy living with someone who has a similar laid-back personality and is happy to have a chat.

If you are looking for a peaceful and welcoming place to call home, please contact us for more information and applications.
