What is an endorsed midwife?

A midwife who has done additional study and training to be able to prescribe medications, order investigations (blood tests, ultrasounds) and refer to other specialists. Endorsed midwives care for women and their families from the very beginning of pregnancy (as soon as you get a positive test), right through each trimester, during their labour and birth, and for the first six weeks postpartum. They can provide all relevant health checks and information to mothers and their babies.

Endorsed midwives work as independent practitioners, their speciality is ‘normal’ or ‘low risk’ pregnancy and birth, however they are still able to care for women with ‘high risk’ or ‘complex needs’ by collaborating with an obstetrician for opinion when needed.

The endorsed midwives at Albert Road believe that every woman should be able to access midwife care at all stages of their journey, they provide a non-judgemental space for you to ask any questions, provide evidence-based information, and empower you to make informed choices about your pregnancy and birth. Our midwife appointments are long, allowing for discussions about what happens next and how to prepare yourself for the best possible labour and birth experience.

Your birth story matters 🤍

For some parents, birth is exactly what they expected. For many, it isn't.

A Birth Debrief is a 90 minute, dedicated one-on-one appointment with an endorsed midwife where you can talk through your labour and birth in a calm, supportive environment.

Together, you can:
• Understand what happened during your labour and birth
• Ask the questions you never had the chance to ask
• Make sense of your medical notes and the decisions made along the way
• Process an experience that may still be on your mind
• Feel more informed and confident for a future pregnancy, if that's part of your plan

We suggest booking your Birth Debrief within the first 6 weeks after birth, when the appointment is bulk billed for eligible patients. If you're further along in your postpartum journey, you can still book a Birth Debrief at any time for $166.80.

Because every birth deserves to be understood 🤍

One of the biggest benefits of Shared Care is having someone who truly gets to know you.

Rather than seeing a different clinician at each appointment, you have an experienced endorsed midwife who follows your pregnancy, understands your goals and is there to support you from those first two pink lines until six weeks after your baby's birth.

Your midwife can:
🤍 Order and review blood tests and ultrasounds
🤍 Refer to and liaise with your booked hospital
🤍 Monitor your pregnancy and your baby's wellbeing
🤍 Provide evidence-based education and answer your questions
🤍 Help you prepare for labour, birth and postpartum
🤍 Offer reassurance scans in early pregnancy
🤍 Support breastfeeding and your transition into parenthood

Pregnancy is about so much more than measurements and test results. It's about feeling informed, supported and confident every step of the way.

And because questions don't always come up during a scheduled appointment, we're here when you need us not just when your next visit is due.

It's exciting times around here 🤍

Something has been missing in pregnancy care.
For a long time, the system has looked like this:
See your GP → wait
Go to hospital → wait
Get a scan → wait

And somewhere in between… try to piece it all together yourself.

That’s the gap.

So we built something to fill it.

At Pregnancy & Parenthood, you can access:
• GPs
• Midwives
• Reassurance scans
• Birth planning
• Physio & massage
• Postnatal support

All in one place.
All working together.

Designed to sit alongside your public or private care, not replace it.

Not a program. Not a class.
Real care, when you need it.

Book one appointment.
Or build your entire pregnancy journey with us.

There’s no right way to do this.
Only what feels right for you.

If you’re pregnant, here are some of the services available to you through Pregnancy & Parenthood by Albert Road GP & Women's Clinic.
