Could your menopausal rage have a relationship with your mother?
Our mothers came from a different time, different circumstances, a different love language altogether. Protection, control, discipline, often standing in for love.
This primary relationship shapes so much of our lives, whether weāre happy with her influence or not. We can respond or react. Either way, itās still a response.
In clinic, most women come to realise thereās some aspect of this relationship woven into whatās troubling them. Sometimes itās obvious. Sometimes itās a shock.
In Chinese medicine, the Ren Mai, the Conception Vessel, opens at puberty alongside the Chong Mai, bringing our first cycle and the beginning of our fertile years.
At menopause, this same vessel closes. As it does, so much of what itās been carrying comes up for review, including our earliest years, and our bond with our mother.
Itās so common for charged emotions like rage, anger and frustration during menopause to have roots in that early bond, strong or traumatic, depending on how she was navigating her own life at the time.
My mother died in my late 40s. Ours was a complex relationship. When she died, it was one of the most profound experiences of my life, I discovered just how intertwined my identity was with who sheād made me be.
Iām praying at The Convent in October for Into Her Power
Iām also building something for exactly this.
If any part of this is speaking to you, DM me āwaitlistā and Iāll be in touch.
With love,
