In 2017 I had a mental breakdown that end up as psychosis because all the repressed trauma that I tried to suppress and push down was gushing out. So I spent 4 weeks in a high security psychward and had to injected with medication but I then spent the next 5 years rebuilding my life holistically.
Heres what I learned.
1. I had to decided that I wanted to change and where I was was rock bottom. No shame, just a decision that I didn't want to fall any further as the road I was heading down was only going to be filled with more pain.
2. The mainstream route of medication and talk therapy wasn't enough. All it did was turn me into a zombie so I was easier to deal with and didn't cause issues for those around me. But it never addressed why I had what I had, there was no interest in history, experiences or my story. I was seen as someone who was “crazy” and I needed to be drugged for th safety of myself and others.
3. Psychosis can be overcome without medication and it doesn't have to be a life long disease that destroys lives and families. But only if the person is ready to face everything they've been running from, turning around and facing your demons is where the healing and freedom come from!
