Spending a bit of time this afternoon building on my knowledge and deepening my understanding as to why one of my most favourite and versatile amino acids, glycine works so well in so many cases… (of course, not suitable in every case). NMDA receptors (NMDAR), which sit on every neuron cell wall in great numbers, drive the action potential (AP) from neuron to neuron. Hence it controls a wide variety of brain functions and consequently, they are implicated in a multitude of pathologies, either due to excess or lack of activity. Glycine plays the dual role of inhibitor and activator of NMDARs. Understanding the “how”, these articles discuss some evidence and ideas how glycine modulates NMDAR activity. It is thought mechano-sensitivity may govern when glycine plays agonist or the antagonist. Wow.

More importantly, today I’m posting another heartfelt testimonial from a family I’ve working with since May 2022. This family came to me with their 10yr ASD/ADHD boy after years of dealing with misdiagnosis and disastrous trialling of anti psychotic medication. His metldowns and flares were extreme and violent. OCD preoccupied him constantly all day. The stakes were high for this family , so my diagrams and knowledge about NMDARs and glycine didn’t really matter to them. What matter was that I invested in getting results for them.
