Before I write a single program, a single meal plan, anything β€” I look at four things.

Sleep. Nervous system. Nutrition. Training.

Most people are training hard and wondering why they're not getting anywhere. Because nobody checked the baseline first.

If "close to burnout" sounds like your every day β€” this is for you.

Comment below if this hits home. Or follow along, next up: the questionnaire we use with every client.

They said the "boring" phase would pay off. Here's the proof.

Build phase = more training, more VO2 Max work, zone 5-6 intensity.

But it only works because recovery gets stricter too β€” sleep, nervous system, protein, breathwork, nature.

There's a small dip at first. Then HRV climbs, resting heart rate drops, sleep deepens, energy comes back online.

This is why the base mattered.

Most people skip Phase 2. That's the mistake.

Reset calms your system. Base builds the engine. Build is where it gets fun.

Skip straight to intensity and you're building on nothing. 8 weeks in the base and your resting heart rate, HRV, sleep β€” all of it shifts.

Foundations first. Then anything's possible.

This might surprise you a bit, but the very first thing I do with new clients in my 16 week program is actually make them do LESS.

Most high achievers come in ticking every box. Five sessions a week, VO2 max, ice baths, saunas... yet their energy is tanking, they need four coffees just to get through the day, and they are not getting results.

You simply cannot build on weak foundations. Smashing a burnt out system with more load does not work.

Before we add anything, we strip back the noise and find your baseline. We get your body and mind connected first by looking at what is underneath:

πŸ“ Sleep quality
πŸ“ Breathing and nervous system
πŸ“ Daylight and actual movement

If you are giving it 100% right now but going backwards, pause. Reassess where you are at.

Drop a πŸ”‹ below if you feel like you are running on empty right now!

I'm gonna be completely straight with you today. I got really lost in the AI machine trying to keep up with social media, and I totally stopped hearing my own voice in the process.

Talking in front of 100 people about health and wellness? Easy. Putting myself out there on public forums like LinkedIn and Instagram? The fear factor kicks in, and I actually have to work on my own nervous system just to hit record.

So we are stepping away from the fake stuff. No more AI chat. Just you and me.

Over the next 16 weeks, I am taking you through the exact journey I use in my coaching program, Day One Health, completely for free. We are going twice a week through all four phases:

πŸ“ Reset
πŸ“ Base
πŸ“ Build
πŸ“ Peak

Massive thanks to the mates and family who called me out and said, "Come on Mark, give us the real stuff."

It starts now. Follow along, it is going to be a fun 16 weeks!

I hate the term corporate wellness.

It sounds like a perk, filed in somewhere between the fruit bowl and the standing desk, and the numbers are finally catching up to what I've felt for years. Satisfaction with these programs has fallen from 41% to 29% in twelve months, and I've been thinking about why. We've been selling people the wrong thing for years, dressing up a real problem as a perk instead of treating it like the infrastructure it actually is.

Underneath the step challenges and the meditation apps, over half the workforce is quietly cracking, always on a call, always reachable, running on empty and still getting the job done. And the ones most at risk are usually the ones whose output still looks fine, because looking fine is exactly what stops anyone checking in.

This isn't just happening on the frontline either. One in two Australians now face burnout at work, and every leader I coach carries just as much of this, often more, than the people they manage.

So I've stopped calling it wellness. What I actually help people build is the load-bearing system underneath everything else they're trying to do, their work, their family, the life they've worked hard for.

What would you call it instead of corporate wellness? Drop a word below, I read every one.

The conversation that made me build Day One.

A few years ago I was sitting across the kitchen table from one of my closest friends.

By any standard he had built a remarkable life. Great career. Wonderful family. The kind of success that looks complete from the outside.

But as we sat there, he looked at me and said something I have not forgotten since.
"I haven't slept properly in nine months. But that's just life. I'll rest when things slow down."

Things never slowed down.

I was writing performance programs for professional athletes at the time. And sitting there, I realised something I could not unsee.

The protocols we use in elite sport do not translate to real life. Not to the life of someone carrying a business, a family, a leadership role, and a decade of compounding stress from every direction at once.

My friend was not lacking discipline. He was not lazy. He was not making bad decisions.

He was running a system that was never designed for the load he was carrying.
And when I started looking around, I realised he was not the exception. He was the rule.

Every high performer I worked with told some version of the same story. The 3am wake-ups. The afternoon fog. The effort that no longer returned what it used to. The body quietly failing to keep up with what the mind was demanding of it.
They had all tried the programs. The trainers. The plans. The supplements. And nothing stuck. Not because they failed the program. Because the program was never built for them.

So I built Day One.

Reset. Base. Build. Peak. Entirely bespoke. One-to-one. No templates.

If any part of my friend's story sounds familiar β€” if you have been doing the work and not seeing the return β€” this is for you.

The door is open when you are ready.

This is not burnout. It is architecture.

Burnout is an event. Structural stress is a setting. Somewhere along the way, your nervous system stopped treating threat as the exception and started treating it as the default.

Here are five signs we see constantly in high performers who think they are simply "wired this way."

You cannot fully switch off, even on holiday. Small things, a missed email, a delayed reply, feel disproportionately heavy. You wake between 2 and 4am, alert, running through to-do lists with no trigger at all. Nothing feels genuinely exciting anymore, even the wins. And your body is holding tension your mind has learned to ignore: the jaw, the shoulders, the gut.

None of these are personality traits. They are signals from a system that has recalibrated to threat as its resting state.

The good news is that recalibration works in both directions.

Save this. Send it to someone who needs to read it.
