Flu doesn’t just mean a few days off school. It can be serious for children and young people, even those without any pre-existing health conditions. 🤧

That’s why, in an Australian first, Queensland has expanded the free nasal spray flu vaccine program. 🙌

It was previously available to children aged 2 to 5 years old and is now also available to children and adolescents aged between 6 and 17 years (inclusive) who struggle with getting a needle.

With peak flu season approaching, now is the ideal time for families to vaccinate while stock of the nasal spray flu vaccine remains available.

Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Dr Marianne encouraged families to take advantage of the expanded program ahead of peak flu season.

'We don’t want any Queenslanders getting sick and missing out on school, work and family events this winter,' she said.

'This expanded access gives families another safe and effective option to protect children from flu without needing a needle and where clinically appropriate.

'Vaccination protects not only the individual, but also helps reduce transmission in schools, households and the broader community.'
