Ever wondered what actually happens when you work with a nutritionist? Here's how I do it.

We start with your full story. Your symptoms, sleep, stress, work, the real shape of your days. We look at your bloods against an optimal range, not just "in range" — because "not unwell" and "well" aren't the same thing. Then we build from food first, tailored to your real life, one change at a time and negotiated together.

And we do it one change at a time, negotiated together. No dramatic overhaul, no plan that falls apart by Tuesday. Just support built around you.

It's the most common thing I get asked: Please, just give me the list.

I understand why; certainty feels good.

But the reason generic plans fail isn't willpower, it's fit.

Your body, your bloods and your real week are specific, so the plan has to be too. That's the whole case for working with someone one-on-one: not more rules, but the right ones for you.

Doing everything "right" and still not feeling right?

A free discovery call is a no-pressure chat about your symptoms, your life, how I work and may be able to assist you. A little feel for whether we're the right fit to work on it together.

No sales pitch, just a conversation.

Last chance — the launch special closes tomorrow.

For the next 24 hours, the code 21OFF takes $21 off your initial consultation. If getting your nutrition sorted has been sitting on your list, this is the nudge — the easiest time to take that first step and see whether working together feels like the right fit.

And depending on your level of cover, private health rebates may be available for nutrition consults — so the initial outlay could be smaller again. Worth a quick check with your fund.

Ready when you are. Booking link's in my bio 🌿

Hi, I'm Shannon — and if you're new here, welcome. I'm genuinely glad you've found my little corner of the internet.

A quick reintroduction. I'm a clinical nutritionist and a Registered Nurse of 20+ years — which means I sit in both worlds at once: mainstream medicine and nutrition.

But here's the part that shapes everything I do. I know what it feels like to live with an autoimmune condition — to sit inside the very system I work in and still walk away feeling dismissed, unheard, unsupported. That experience changed how I practise.

So, my approach is always food first, rooted in science and current evidence, but real and practical. The kind of changes that fit around your actual life, not some ideal version of it. 😊

Because food should nourish you — and it should also be fun.

That's me, in six quick facts. Now, I'd love to hear a little something about you 🤍

Bone feels like a problem for later — something to worry about at 70, not 47. But the fastest bone loss of your life happens in the years around your last period, as oestrogen steps back from the job of protecting your skeleton. It’s silent, which is exactly why it gets missed.

Here’s the part worth holding onto: bone isn’t just calcium. It’s living tissue that needs three things — calcium for the structure, vitamin D to actually absorb that calcium, and protein for the scaffold underneath. Miss one and the other two can’t do their job.

None of this has to be dramatic. Tinned salmon with the bones, a yoghurt, leafy greens, eggs, a palm of protein at each meal, a little sunlight — and a daily walk, because bone strengthens when you load it. Small, everyday, and starting now.

Stress and magnesium run in a loop that’s worth understanding. When you’re under pressure, your body burns through magnesium faster than usual — and when magnesium runs low, your nervous system gets more reactive, so the next stress lands harder. Round and round it goes.

You can nudge the loop in the right direction with food. Magnesium sits in dark leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, black beans, nuts, and yes — a little good-quality dark chocolate. Nothing exotic, just a steady daily supply.

Don't forget how you eat matters too! Take some time, sit down to eat, take some deep breaths before you start eating. Help flip that stressed body into the rest and digest mode.
It won’t remove what’s stressing you. But a well-topped-up nervous system copes with it better — and that’s a fair place to start.

When you’re managing an autoimmune condition, it’s tempting to hunt for the one dramatic trigger — the food to cut, the stress to blame. The oil you cook in every day almost never makes the list, and it probably should.

Your body builds its inflammation signals from the fats you eat. Omega-6 and omega-3 sit on opposite ends of a seesaw — omega-6 leaning pro-inflammatory, omega-3 anti-inflammatory — and most of us eat far too much omega-6, mainly from everyday seed and vegetable oils in fried and packaged food.

You don’t need to hit zero. Cook with olive oil at home, add oily fish like salmon or sardines two to three times a week, and the ratio starts to shift back toward balance — no twelve-food elimination required.

We treat calm as something we do — breathe, slow down, meditate through the tension. What gets missed is that calm is also something the body has to build, and it builds it from food.

Your steadying brain chemicals — serotonin and GABA — are made from amino acids, the parts that make up protein. A coffee-and-toast breakfast hands your nervous system almost none of them, so it runs the morning on empty and every small stress lands harder than it should.

The fix is unglamorous: real protein at breakfast. Eggs, Greek yoghurt, or smoked salmon — aim for twenty to thirty grams before the day gets loud, alongside some colour and a slow carb.
