We’ve been privileged to support a long-term AAC client for several years, helping him through complex adjustments to his eyegaze setup. This enables him to access mainstream technology (e.g., Word, emails, internet browsing) and operate his communication program, supporting his day-to-day independence.
Recently, the client noticed the eyegaze camera in his device wasn’t tracking as accurately as it used to. Positioning challenges, lighting, and vision changes were making communication harder. To help, we re-engaged, reassessed the setup, and worked with a suitable supplier to find a small new solution.
This included adding a new clamp-on mount, adjusting the device height, angle, and stability, and completing a full recalibration. The outcome? The device can now be used comfortably and reliably, with improved accuracy — allowing the client to communicate more confidently every day.
This case highlights the importance of ongoing support, thoughtful problem-solving, and how even the smallest adjustments can make a meaningful difference for people using complex assistive technology.
