This is the iron care advice I find myself repeating most.

Why? Because too many mums fall through the cracks of not having their iron checked properly, and frequently. Resulting in too much iron, too late!

Why does it matter? Because waiting until anaemia develops means higher doses, more side effects, and less time to course-correct before birth.

If your last iron test was at booking and you’re now well into the second or third trimester, please ask. You’re entitled to that conversation 💛

You’re not making it up.
You’re not being dramatic.
You’re not ‘just’ tired.

If something inside you is saying this level of exhaustion isn’t normal, please trust that.

Low iron in pregnancy is incredibly common in Australia, and incredibly underdiagnosed. The fix is often simple. The cost of missing it is not.

Ask for a ferritin test. Walk into that appointment knowing what to ask. And know we’re here if you’d like more support 💛

Sending this to the version of me at 6 weeks postpartum, and to every mum who’s quietly wondering if she’s allowed to need more.

If you noticed I went quiet — you weren’t imagining it.
I went deep into a midwifery placement, and for a few weeks, my capacity was full. So I let socials go.
But here’s what I want you to know: postpartum depletion is something I know intimately — both as a clinician, and as a mum of three who’s lived it. I still have episodes of burnout. The difference is I now know how to actually pull myself out.
Comment ‘IM BACK’ and I’ll send you my quick, actionable postpartum depletion guide.
Welcome back. I’m glad you’re here.
