As a community, we pause to honour the police officers who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. Their service, sacrifice, and courage in protecting our community will never be forgotten.

Authorities have confirmed that the fire which gutted the Morley Markets shopping centre opposite the Galleria overnight was deliberately lit.

“Every business in the market building has been impacted to some extent,” said DFES incident controller Andre Duckworth.

“We know it’s deliberate and I can’t say any more than that. The Arson Squad and WA Police detectives are investigating as we speak.”

Anyone impacted by this incident, please reach out if you need help.

After initially declaring a fire that gutted the Morley Market shopping centre was deliberately lit, police backtrack on that claim and deem the blaze "non-suspicious".

It’s exciting to see the long-awaited redevelopment of Morley Galleria finally moving forward, with major works starting this September. However, while the mall is being upgraded, the surrounding Morley town centre still needs urgent improvements- better streetscapes, public spaces, and access to make the whole area vibrant and welcoming for the community.

We need to think bigger than the mall and invest in the heart of Morley too.
