The disability community spoke, and this one was heard. 💬

While this is one of many changes announced in the federal budget back in April, the NDIS is bringing in support needs assessments as part of a new approach to planning.

And this change came right from feedback from people living with disability.

The idea is simple... instead of spending your NDIS funding on reports and supporting evidence just to get a plan, a standardised assessment will do that heavy lifting for you.

That means more of your funding goes toward actual supports and working toward your goals, not paperwork. 📋

For allied health professionals, it also means less time writing reports and more time doing the work that matters.

There's a lot more to unpack, but we're focusing on this particular part of the budget announcement because it hits closest to home for everyday participants and the people supporting them. 🙌

You can get more info about this and other NDIS budget announcements at www.health.gov.au/securingtheNDIS.

And as always... if you've got questions about what any of this means for your plan, we're here if you need a hand working through it. 🤝

Here's what the NDIS pricing rules actually say...

If your support worker is heading to you as their first client of the day, that travel from their home is considered ordinary commute time. It's not charged to your plan.

Travel charges only apply under specific circumstances outlined in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements, and knowing those circumstances means you can ask the right questions when scheduling your supports.

🗓️ How your schedule is set up can make a real difference to what comes out of your plan. It's worth having that conversation with your provider.

📲 If you're not sure how travel is being charged in your plan, reach out and we can help you make sense of it.

To everyone living with multiple sclerosis, and to those who love and support you... this day is for you. 🤍

And to carers, family members and friends being there alongside someone with MS, thank you. 🙏

The love and dedication you bring makes a massive difference.

And let's not forget the support workers showing up each day for all people, including those living with MS... you are the heart of this community, you really are. 💪❤️

We stand with the MS community across Australia and around the world. 🌏

If you haven't heard yet, the NDIS is going through some pretty significant changes, and it's worth knowing what's on the table. 👇

The federal government is pushing through reforms aimed at reducing the scheme's growth rate, and the changes are fairly wide-reaching.

Some of the key things being proposed include tightening eligibility requirements so that assessments focus more on functional capacity rather than diagnosis alone, possible reductions in funding for social and community participation activities, and new standardised support needs assessments that are expected to roll out from 2027.

There's also a real possibility that a large number of current participants could be transitioned out of the NDIS and into state-run community supports over the coming years.

It's a big shift, and it hasn't come without pushback.

Disability advocates, state ministers, and support organisations have raised concerns about the pace of the rollout and whether alternative services will genuinely be ready in time.

Nothing is fully locked in yet, and the legislation is still making its way through the Senate. But it's worth staying across what's happening, especially if you or someone you support is currently on the NDIS.

The official breakdown is at health.gov.au/our-work/ndis-legislation-changes/amendments/securing-the-ndis-for-future-generations.

If you're not sure what any of this means for you or someone you support, we're here to help make sense of it.

Your life has changed. Your needs look completely different to what they did when your plan was approved. And now you're sitting there wondering... am I just stuck with this? 😟

Myth number 11, and it's a big one.

🚫 Myth: Once your NDIS plan is approved, that's it. You're locked in.

✅ Reality: That's not how it works at all.

Your NDIS plan can be reviewed if your circumstances change, and that's not a loophole or a special exception, it's literally built into how the system is designed to work.

The NDIS recognises that life doesn't stay the same, and neither do the supports you need.

So what counts as a change in circumstances?

Actually, quite a bit.

If your health condition has gotten worse, if you've had a significant change in your living situation, if a support that was working for you suddenly isn't anymore, or if you've got new goals you're working toward that your current plan just doesn't cover... these are all legitimate reasons to go back and ask for a review.

It's called an unscheduled plan review or a change of circumstances review, and you can request one at any time.

You don't have to wait until your plan's scheduled review date. You don't have to just make do.

The thing is, a lot of people don't know this, so they just push through with a plan that isn't really serving them anymore. And that's exactly why we keep busting these myths every Monday.

Your plan should work for your life, not the other way around.

Schizophrenia gets a lot of airtime in movies and on TV, but it's rarely shown in a way that's fair or accurate. So here's a gentler, more honest version. 💙

It's a mental health condition that affects how someone experiences the world around them.

It can show up as thoughts that feel jumbled or hard to organise 🧠, hearing or seeing things that others around them don't 👁️, holding beliefs that feel completely real but might not match what's happening 💭, or finding it hard to connect with people or show how they're feeling. 😶

It's different for everyone, and for a lot of people, with the right support around them, they're living full and meaningful lives.

More people than you might realise live with schizophrenia, including people right here in our communities. A little understanding goes a long way.

This Sunday, if you get a chance, it's worth learning a bit more, or just checking in on someone you care about.

www.healthdirect.gov.au/schizophrenia has a bunch of interesting info, so check it out.

Have you ever thought about volunteering but never quite got around to it? 🙋

This week is National Volunteer Week, and this year's theme is *Your Year to Volunteer* ... and honestly, if there was ever a sign, this is it. 😄

Volunteering doesn't have to be a huge commitment or something that fits a particular mould. It can be a few hours here and there, doing something you already love, in a community you already care about.

And what you get back? Actually, it can be more than you'd expect.

🤝 Real connections with real people

🌱 A sense of purpose that's hard to find anywhere else

💛 The feeling of actually making a difference

😊 A reason to get out and be part of something bigger

If you've volunteered before or if you've ever wondered what it might be like, 2026 might just be your year.

National Volunteer Week runs from the 18th to the 24th of May (this week).

To get involved, visit www.volunteeringaustralia.org to find events near you.

Ever heard someone say the NDIS only covers wheelchairs and speech therapy? 🙋

It's one of the most common things people assume, and honestly, it's easy to see why. But it's not the full picture at all.

The NDIS actually funds a farily wide range of supports, and what you can access depends on your goals, not like a fixed list of approved items.

Depending on what you're working towards, your plan could include things like...

🛁 Personal care

🌳 Community participation

💼 Employment support

🏠 Home modifications

🤝 Support coordination

🚗 Transport assistance

Therapy and equipment are just two pieces of a much bigger puzzle.

If you or someone you know has been assuming the NDIS is only for certain things, it might be worth having another look at what a plan could actually include.

Navigating the NDIS gets easier when you know who's in your corner. 💗

Complex doesn't have to mean impossible, and asking questions is always the right move.

You don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to know that support is there when you need it.

If anything from this week got you thinking and you'd like to chat, we're never far away.

Have a great weekend, from all of us at Pink Ribbon Community Supports Australia. 🌸

Navigating the NDIS is a lot easier when someone is helping you make sense of it all.

That's exactly what a support coordinator is there for. 🤝

While your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) helps you understand your plan, and your plan manager handles the financial side, a goes a step further.

They help you find the right providers, connect the dots between your different supports, and make sure everything is actually working together in a way that reflects your goals and your life.

If you don't already have one and you think it could help, it's most definiely worth raising at your next plan review.

And once your supports are in place, that's where a provider like us, Pink Ribbon comes in. 💗

Our team works with participants across the Sunshine Coast and Gympie on the day-to-day stuff that makes real life work.

Things like...

🚗 Getting to appointments and community outings with travel and transport.

🏠 Building independence through daily living and life skills, personal care through daily personal activities.

🌳 And getting out and connected through skill development and community participation.

It really does take a village, and we're proud to be part of yours. 🙌

If you'd like to know more about how we can support you, Ria and the team are here and always happy to have a chat... and maybe a coffee too. ☕️💗
