When your dog's health problem keeps coming back, it's natural to ask:

“What can I give my dog for this?”

But what if we asked something different?

“Why does this keep happening?”

That one question can make us stop and look at the bigger picture.

What happened before the flare?
What else was happening?
What has changed?

I'm not saying there's always one simple answer — or that every ear infection is caused by the gut.

It's about looking for patterns and understanding the individual dog. 🌿💚

That's something I've learned repeatedly through my years of working with dogs.

Tell Me About Your Dog!

I'd love to ask the dog owners in this community something...

When your dog has a health flare-up, what do you notice first?

🐾 Itchy skin
🐾 Paw licking
🐾 Ear problems
🐾 Digestive changes
🐾 Yeast
🐾 Something else?

Tell me in the comments.

Sometimes the patterns you notice at home can tell us a lot about what's happening over time.

When your dog's ear is red, itchy or smelly, it's very easy to focus entirely on the ear.

And of course, we need to address what's happening there.

But what I've noticed over the years is that sometimes there are other clues happening elsewhere in the dog.

Itchy paws.
Skin problems.
Digestive issues.
Food sensitivities.
Other recurring problems.

Your dog isn't just an ear.

They're a whole individual. 🌿

Sometimes the clues are happening somewhere else.

🎥 I've talked more about this in this week's YouTube video.

You treated your dog's ear infection.
It cleared up.
Everything seemed fine…

And then suddenly — it's back again.

If this keeps happening, perhaps the question isn't just “How do I treat the ear?”

Maybe it's:

“Why does this keep happening to my dog?”

That's the question I explore in this week's video — and why sometimes we need to look beyond the symptom and at the whole dog. 🌿💚

Afternoon doggie lovers meet 18 month old Princess. She is a rescue dog who has been through some past trauma. Her guardian contacted me for some support with some anxiety issues. Alongside working to help desensitised her and also doing some Reiki to help her energies, I recommended a herbal combination to help support her nervous system and adrenals along with supporting her gut health. I am looking forward to seeing how she progresses ###

Why I Look Deeper

My passion for understanding health comes partly from my own experience.

I've had my own journey with chronic health issues (back at 21!!) and know what it's like to keep searching for answers when you're not getting the bigger picture.

That experience has stayed with me throughout my 35+ years working as both an animal and human naturopath.

It's one of the reasons I don't want to simply look at a symptom and stop there.

Whether I'm working with a person or a dog, I want to understand the story behind what's happening.

Because the symptoms are only one chapter. ❤️🐾

Itchy skin. Recurring ear problems. Yeast. Digestive issues. Food sensitivities…

What if these aren't just problems to get rid of, but clues that can help us understand what might be happening underneath?

Instead of only asking, “What can I give my dog for this?” try asking:

💭 “Why does this keep happening to my dog?”

Sometimes that one question can change the way we look at our dog's health. 🌿💚
