Is it a cold… or is hay fever making its spring comeback? 🤧🌿
The symptoms can look surprisingly similar - sneezing, congestion, a runny nose and generally feeling a bit ordinary.

But as we head into spring, increasing pollen exposure means seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) becomes a more likely culprit for many people.

And while pollen gets most of the blame, it’s not the only trigger. Allergic rhinitis can occur year-round, with dust mites, mould and animal dander among the other common culprits.

So what makes your immune system react to something seemingly harmless like pollen in the first place?

Don’t just manage the headache. Change the pattern. 🔎

If headaches or migraines keep coming back, it’s worth looking at what’s happening between them.

Are there patterns around stress, muscle tension, hydration or your menstrual cycle? What’s happening with your digestion? Are you moving enough? Is your nervous system getting enough opportunity to switch off and recover?

Small, consistent changes can make a difference.

And acupuncture? There is good evidence that acupuncture can help reduce the frequency of migraines and tension-type headaches, making it another option to consider as part of your prevention strategy.

The goal isn’t just getting through the next headache — it’s having fewer of them in the first place.

Foods can be a trigger for headaches and migraines—but it’s rarely the whole story.
Stress, hormones, dehydration, skipping meals and digestive problems can all lower your migraine threshold, making you more sensitive to potential food triggers.

If you suspect a particular food, try avoiding that one food for a few weeks to see if it makes a difference.

But don’t rush to eliminate everything.

One of my aims is to look beyond food triggers by supporting the nervous system, digestive health, hormones and overall resilience. When these are working better, many people find they’re less sensitive to their triggers over time.

Hormones can have a surprisingly powerful influence on headaches and migraines.

For many women, headaches follow a pattern—appearing around their period, during pregnancy, while taking the oral contraceptive pill, or throughout perimenopause.

Recognising these patterns is an important step towards understanding why your headaches keep returning.
