Being a psychologist is a privilege—but it also comes with an immense responsibility.
People often think as if therapy
means having just a vinversation. But they don’t see the constant attunement happening beneath the surface.
🫀Every word, every pause, every question, and every intervention requires careful thought.
We are listening not only to what is being said, but also to what is communicated through silence, emotion, and non-verbal cues.
🫀Working with complex trauma, grief, PTSD, deep rooted fears, helplessness, hopeless and deep emotional pain requires more than clinical knowledge.
🫀It requires sensitivity, presence, and an ongoing awareness of client’s verbal and non verbal communication and how best we can respond verbally and non verbally. Also making sure that our own values and biases never overshadow the client’s unique experiences.
🫀 I often think of therapy as holding someone’s heart in your hands—not a heart protected by anaesthesia, but one that is awake, beating, carrying pain, hurt, trauma, and hope.
🧠🫀Every interaction has the potential to either strengthen a person’s sense of safety or unintentionally reinforce old wounds.
That is why psychological work demands such care. It can be emotionally demanding, but it is also one of the greatest privileges to witness people heal, grow, and reconnect with themselves.
🫀❤️🧠To everyone working in the helping professions—thank you for holding people’s hearts with compassion, courage, and care.
