Plot twist: Cultivate Community workshops don’t all have to be run by me!

In fact, I really don’t want them to be.

There are so many clever, creative, practical and wonderfully random people around our communities who know how to do things that the rest of us would LOVE to learn.

Maybe you can crochet. Make sourdough. Change a tyre. Grow ridiculously good tomatoes. Paint. Sew. Preserve food. Make jewellery. Arrange flowers. Take great photos. Fix things. Build things. Cook something delicious. Teach a dance. Make something obscure that I’ve never even heard of yet.

If you know how to do a thing, there’s a very good chance someone else would love you to show them!

So I’m opening up paid opportunities for people to run workshops through Cultivate Community.

And before you immediately think:

“Oh no, I couldn’t RUN A WORKSHOP.”
You don’t have to suddenly become a professional workshop facilitator with a headset microphone and a PowerPoint presentation - I've been doing this stuff for years, and I've got you ☺️

You bring the skill. I’ll help with the rest.

I can help you turn what you know into something people can actually come along and do, and I’ll handle the boring behind-the-scenes bits like organising, promotion (*shiver*), getting people through the door and helping things run smoothly on the day.

You don’t need to be an “expert.” You just need to know something you’d feel comfortable showing someone else.

And I’m particularly interested in the wonderfully random stuff.

The “wait… someone can teach me THAT?!” stuff.

Cultivate Community isn’t supposed to be about me teaching everyone everything, I am not that up myself!

It’s about creating opportunities for our community to learn from each other.

So, what do you know how to do?

Send me a message with your idea, even if it’s half-baked, slightly weird, or you’re not sure anyone would be interested.

Let’s have a chat and see what we can make happen. ✨

There’s a bit of a story behind the Cultivate Community logo...

It may seem off brand if you know me in everyday life - I’m colourful, a little quirky, and rarely opposed to an unreasonable amount of glitter. I love ridiculous outfits, sparkly gems on my face, bright colours and generally looking like a craft cupboard sneezed all over me before I left the house!

So I might not immediately scream 'country girl'.

But I am, through and through.

I’ve been lucky enough to call some incredible parts of Australia home - from the red dirt of the Pilbara, to the places where the forest meets the sea in coastal WA, and now the rivers, bush and farming landscapes of northern Victoria.

I grew up riding motorbikes, borrowing friends’ horses, hunting, swimming in rivers and spending a lot of time outdoors. And even now, one of the places I feel most completely at peace is camping under the gum trees.

But my absolute favourite?

Golden hour 🧡💛

That little window at the end of the day when everything changes colour. When the light catches the gum trees and suddenly they’re glowing gold. No matter how many times I see it, it still stops me in my tracks.

It genuinely takes my breath away.

And when I was thinking about what Cultivate Community should look and feel like, I kept coming back to that feeling.

Because, to me, home and community feel like golden hour.

It’s sitting around a fire under the gum trees with a couple of beers. It’s watching the last bit of sunlight hit the branches. It’s good people nearby. Nowhere else you need to be. Nothing you need to achieve. Just feeling comfortable, connected and completely at home.

That’s what the logo represents to me - roots, growth, connection, the Australian landscape, and that warm golden glow of the end of the day, when I get to chill.

And maybe a tiny bit of magic ✨️

Cultivate Community might involve crafts, workshops and learning new things, what I really want to cultivate is that feeling.

A place where you can turn up, settle in and feel like you belong.

Hi, I’m Nicole - the human behind Cultivate Community!

I’m a country girl through and through… but I don’t like sport. Sorry, sporty people! 😅

And for years I’ve felt like there’s been a bit of a gap in our community for people like me.

I want to go somewhere, I want to do something, I want to be around other humans, but I don’t necessarily want to join a sporting club, drink at the pub, or volunteer more of my time. I work enough already, thank you very much!

I’m an artist, a serial collector of crafty hobbies, and a pretty practical person. Single-mum life has given me a strong “eh, I’ll figure it out” approach to most things.

I’ve also spent many years working with communities across Shepparton, Moira Shire and beyond, while raising my three kids. And one thing I keep coming back to is how much we need more third spaces.

A “third space” is simply somewhere that isn’t home and isn’t work - somewhere you can go just because you enjoy being there. Somewhere to meet people, make things, learn something, have a chat, or simply get out of the house for a while.

That’s what Cultivate Community is.

Yes, there are workshops. We’ll make cool things, learn random skills and occasionally discover talents we absolutely intend to brag about afterwards.

But the workshop is almost beside the point.

It’s somewhere to go between home and work. Something to do besides housework and work-work. A reason to get out of the house, be around other people and try something a little different - without needing to already know anyone or be “good” at anything.

So if you’ve ever thought, “I wish there was just… something to go to around here!,” you are exactly the kind of person I had in mind.

Come along. Make something. Learn something. Have a laugh. Get out of the house.

I’d love to see you there!
