⭐️A message from our Clinic Director/Senior Exercise Physiologist ⭐️
"For those of you that don't know me, my name is Hayden and I am the Clinic Director and a Senior Exercise Physiologist, with nearly 7 years experience as an EP. Over the past 2 years I've been working closely with many of our other locations to create an effective program for our community across SA.
As a Kapunda local, I'm eager to get back into the clinic with our fantastic Barossa clients over the coming weeks! I am looking forward to reuniting with several of you and working with some new faces in our programs too.
My hobbies include spending time with our 10 month old boy - Riley, strength training, reading and anything basketball related. As an EP, I specialise in musculoskeletal pain and assisting those with shoulder, back, hip and knee issues.
See you in-clinic soon! 😃👋"

Simon became interested in exercise rehabilitation after experiencing many of his own injuries. Once you can improve 1% then great, do it again.”

On top of exercise rehabilitation, Simon also has an interest in T2D, osteoporosis, cardiovascular/pulmonary rehabilitation and falls prevention.

As well as his Master in Exercise Physiology, Simon also has a Bachelor of Health Sciences, and a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science.

My name is Sam, it is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as the newest member of the Proactive Health team. I am honoured to be one of the Exercise Physiologist, here on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Originally hailing from South Australia, but having embraced Tasmania as my second home, I bring a unique blend of metropolitan vigour and island tranquility to my professional approach. My professional passion lies in assisting individuals in managing pain and disabilities, empowering them to achieve their wellness aspirations through tailored exercise strategies. Whether your goal is to reclaim quality of life, enhance daily functionality, or simply improve overall well-being, rest assured that I am dedicated to supporting you every step of the way.

June 21st represents Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Global Awareness Day. The aim of the day is to increase public understanding of MND, promote research, and advocate for better care and support services for individuals living with the disease. MND is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects the motor neurons, the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. As these neurons degenerate and die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost, leading to muscle weakness and wasting.

Falls Prevention:
Falls and poor balance are major problems associated with ageing, as they can lead to serious injury or disability, a decrease in confidence and fear of falling, and restriction of activity, each resulting in reduced quality of life and independence. At least one-third of community-living Australians aged 65 years and over fall every year.

There is good evidence that exercise can prevent falls in older people by decreasing several key risk factors. For example, exercise can improve:
⭐️ Balance & balance confidence
⭐️ Walking speed
⭐️ Muscular strength & power
⭐️ Mental ability and mood
Exercise programs should include challenging balance training, dual-task motor and cognitive exercises, and look to improve the speed of movement through high-velocity (power) training and functional movement. Exercise must be of sufficient duration (3+ hours per week) and ongoing. The exercises should be safe while progressively challenging developing functional balance and strength.

It’s important to note that individual responses to exercise may vary. Therefore, an Accredited Exercise Physiologist can work with you to prescribe and progress an individualised exercise program tailored to your specific needs and conditions.
