The kindest thing you can give someone after a stroke: time.
Slow down (don't dumb down), wait ten seconds, let them find the word, use yes/no questions, and count pointing and drawing as talking. And above all — keep visiting. Awkward conversation beats no conversation, every time.

Half of "emotional eating" is just… hunger with interest. 🍫

Skip meals all day and your body collects at 8pm — that's biology, not weakness. Eat properly by day, pause and name the feeling at night, and if you still choose the chocolate: sit down and actually enjoy it. Guilt was never part of the treatment.

Aphasia locks the words, not the mind.

🧠 After a stroke, thoughts and intelligence remain — it's word retrieval that's damaged. So speak to the person, not around them, and know that with therapy, the brain keeps rewiring for years. Recovery has no expiry date.

We're proud to share that our very own Amira Khela has been named a winner at the 2026 SBC Women's awards, in the young entrepreneur category.

Amira started Steps2Life with a simple goal: to give Western Sydney families allied health support that is warm, practical and close to home. Today our team offers speech pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, dietetics and PBS across our Penrith, Bankstown and Parramatta clinics.

This award belongs just as much to our clinicians, our admin team, and the children and families who trust us every day. Thank you to the organisers, and congratulations to all the finalists and winners.

Your brain at 3am is just doing the filing you didn't schedule.

Give worries a 15-minute daytime appointment, get out of bed if you're awake past 20 minutes, and never trust a thought that shows up after midnight. Months of bad sleep? That's treatable — insomnia responds really well to therapy.

Yes, I put the snack in a jar they can't open. On purpose. 😈 It's called communication temptation — tiny solvable problems that give kids a reason to use words. One chip at a time, shoe on your head, toy juuust out of reach. Sabotage responsibly.
