A Conversation with Michelle: Life at Hawa Pure Care

In this short interview, Matthew sits down with Michelle, one of our valued SIL participants, to hear about her experience living at Hawa Pure Care. 🏑

Michelle shares her thoughts about life in our Supported Independent Living home at East Corrimal, the support she receives, and what makes her feel comfortable and supported in her everyday life.

At Hawa Pure Care, we believe that every participant’s voice matters. Hearing directly from the people we support helps us understand what is important to them and reminds us independence, and genuine connection are at the heart of what we do.

πŸŽ₯ Take a moment to hear Michelle’s story and learn more about her experience.

How Hawa Pure Care Helps Participants Engage in Community Participation Activities

Being part of the community is about more than simply getting out of the house. It is about building connections, developing confidence, learning new skills, discovering interests, and having opportunities to make meaningful choices.

At Hawa Pure Care, we support participants to explore activities that match their interests, goals, abilities, and preferences. This could include joining community groups, attending social events, participating in recreational activities, visiting local places, trying new hobbies, volunteering, or taking part in activities that encourage independence.

Our support can help participants:
✨ Discover activities they genuinely enjoy
✨ Build confidence when meeting new people
✨ Develop communication and social skills
✨ Practise everyday skills in real community settings
✨ Access community and recreational activities safely
✨ Build friendships and meaningful connections
✨ Work towards greater independence and participation

πŸ’‘ Tip: Start with what interests you! Think about activities you already enjoy or something new you would like to try. Your support team can help you explore suitable opportunities and identify what assistance you may need to participate.

The NDIS recognises that social and community participation can help people build relationships, confidence, independence, and a stronger sense of connection. Depending on your individual plan and circumstances, NDIS supports may assist with participation, while general activity costs may still need to be paid by the participant.

At Hawa Pure Care, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to be involved, connected, and included in their community.

πŸ‘‰ Want to explore community participation opportunities that suit your goals? Contact Hawa Pure Care today and talk to our friendly team about how we can support you.

What Is an NDIS Plan?

If you are new to the NDIS, understanding your plan is an important first step in making the most of your supports.

An NDIS plan is a personalised plan created with you and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). It outlines information about your circumstances, the goals you want to work towards, the supports you may receive, how your funding is managed, and the amount of funding available to purchase eligible NDIS supports.

What can you find in your NDIS plan?

🎯 Your goals
These are the things you want to achieve, such as becoming more independent, building daily living skills, participating in the community, working, studying, or developing social connections.

πŸ’° Your funding
Your plan shows the funding available for your approved supports. Depending on your individual needs, this may include Core, Capacity Building, Capital, or Recurring support budgets. You may not receive funding in every budget.

🀝 Your supports
Your plan identifies the NDIS supports you can use to help with your disability related needs and work towards your goals.

πŸ“‹ How your funding is managed
Your plan explains how your funding will be managed and whether particular funding is flexible or stated. Flexible funding can generally give you more choice within the relevant support category, while stated funding must be used as described in your plan.

πŸ’‘ Helpful tips for participants:
βœ”οΈ Take time to understand your funding and support categories.
βœ”οΈ Keep your goals clear and meaningful to you.
βœ”οΈ Check whether your supports are flexible or stated.
βœ”οΈ Keep track of your spending and available funding.
βœ”οΈ If you're unsure whether a support can be purchased with your NDIS funding, ask your NDIS contact before spending.

Remember, having funding in your plan does not mean it can be used for anything you choose. NDIS funding must be used for eligible supports that are related to your disability and in line with your plan and NDIS rules.

πŸ‘‰ Need help understanding your NDIS supports or exploring options that may suit your goals? Contact Hawa Pure Care today @ 1800 961 882. Our team is here to help you understand your support options and take the next step towards greater independence.

Your abilities are stronger than any barrier.

Challenges may sometimes make things more difficult, but they do not define what you are capable of achieving. With the right opportunities, encouragement, and support, you can build confidence, develop new skills, and work towards the goals that matter to you.

At Hawa Pure Care, we believe in a strengths based and person centred approach. We focus on your abilities, interests, choices, and potential rather than simply focusing on the barriers you may face. The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission recognises that supporting people to use and develop their strengths can help build confidence, independence, participation, and greater choice and control.

Remember:
✨ Start with what you can do
✨ Set small, achievable goals
✨ Celebrate every milestone
✨ Ask for support when you need it
✨ Keep exploring what is possible

Your goals may look different from someone else’s, and that is perfectly okay. Progress is personal, and every step forward counts.

πŸ‘‰ Ready to explore your potential? Get in touch with Hawa Pure Care and discover how personalised support can help you work towards greater confidence and independence.

Who Can Access the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support to eligible Australians with permanent and significant disability. However, having a disability does not automatically mean someone will be eligible. There are specific access requirements that need to be met.

You may be eligible if you:

βœ… Meet the age requirement
You are aged 0 to 64 when you apply. Children under 9 can access the NDIS through the early childhood approach.

βœ… Meet the residency requirements
You live in Australia and are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category Visa holder.

βœ… Meet the disability requirements
You have a disability caused by a permanent impairment that significantly affects your everyday life and you are likely to need NDIS supports for your lifetime. This can include intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, physical, or psychosocial impairments.

You may also qualify through early intervention if you have an impairment that is likely to be permanent and receiving support now could improve your functional capacity, prevent your situation from getting worse, or reduce your future need for support.

πŸ’‘ Helpful tip: If you are unsure whether you qualify, start gathering relevant evidence about your disability and how it affects your daily life. Reports, assessments, and statements from treating professionals may help with your application. An NDIS partner can also help you understand your options and the application process.

Have questions about NDIS eligibility or the support available to you? Get in touch with Hawa Pure Care. Our friendly team can help you understand your options and connect you with the right information and support.
