This week, WWDA CEO Sophie Cusworth is speaking at Australian Progress on why Australia needs a Human Rights Act.

The Disability Royal Commission confirmed what our community has been saying for years: violence, abuse, neglect and exclusion are not isolated problems. They are systemic. They are enabled by laws, policies and systems that still do not properly protect our rights.

That is why WWDA supports a national Human Rights Act.

We need laws that protect rights before harm happens. For women with disability, this also means laws that better reflect the reality of our lives, including the ways ableism and sexism overlap.

Human rights should not depend on where you live, what system you are dealing with, or whether you can afford to fight.
