Coming soon to Netflix: The Clinic Manager 🎬

She though she was coming to work to manage a paediatric therapy clinic…

Instead, she’s keeping the clinic running, solving approximately 472 problems before lunch and pretending she didn’t see the social media manager approaching with her phone.

Critics are saying it’s β€œstressful, inspiring, an absolute must-watch.”

πŸ“š 5 ways to build language while reading together πŸ“š

Sharing a book with your child can be about so much more than reading the words on the page! πŸ’›

Here are 5 simple ways you can support communication and language development while you read:

✨ Pause and wait β€” give your child time to comment, point, make a sound or tell you what they notice.

✨ Talk about the pictures β€” you don't have to read every word! Describe what you can see and wonder together about what might happen next.

✨ Follow their interests β€” if they want to spend five minutes talking about the dog on one page… that's okay!

✨ Add to what they say β€” if your child says β€œbig dog”, you might respond with β€œYes! A big, fluffy dog!”

✨ Read favourites again… and again… and again! β€” repetition can be wonderful for learning new words, understanding stories and building confidence.

With Children's Book Week just around the corner, it's the perfect excuse to pull out an old favourite and enjoy a story together. πŸ“–βœ¨

πŸ“šβœ¨ Book Week is coming to So to Speak! βœ¨πŸ“š

We're so excited to celebrate the magic of stories, imagination, and literacy during Book Week!

Books do so much more than tell a story, they help children build their vocabulary, develop speech and language skills, strengthen literacy, spark creativity, and grow their confidence in communication. That's why Book Week is one of our favourite times of the year! πŸ’›

If you're visiting our clinic between Monday 24 August and Friday 28 August, we'd love for your child to come dressed as their favourite book character!

Whether it's a superhero, princess, animal, wizard, explorer, or a simple homemade costume, we'd love to see everyone's creativity shine. Children are also encouraged to bring along their favourite book to share with their therapist and tell us why it's so special to them. πŸ“–

Throughout the week, our therapists will be incorporating books, storytelling, and Book Week-themed activities into sessions wherever appropriate, making therapy even more fun and engaging.

πŸ† Plus, there'll be a Best Dressed Prize at the end of the week! We'll be looking for creativity, enthusiasm, and most importantly... children having fun and expressing themselves.

Our team will also be joining in the fun by dressing up as some of our favourite book characters on Tuesday 25th August, and we can't wait to see the clinic filled with imaginative costumes and smiling faces.

Who will your child come as? We can't wait to find out! πŸŒŸπŸ“š

πŸŽ‰πŸ’› PROBATION = PASSED! πŸ’›πŸŽ‰

It’s official, these two wonderful ladies are sticking around! πŸ₯³

A huge congratulations to Daniélle, our Occupational Therapist, and Lizzy, our Admin superstar, who have both officially passed their probation at So To Speak! 🌈✨

Over the past few months, they’ve each become such valued members of our team, DaniΓ©lle supporting our children and families with her knowledge, care and creativity, and Lizzy helping to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes (which is no small task around here! πŸ˜‚).

We’re so lucky to have them as part of the So To Speak family and can’t wait to see what’s ahead for them both. πŸ’•

Please help us congratulate DaniΓ©lle and Lizzy in the comments! πŸ‘πŸŽ‰

πŸ‘‹ Hi everyone!

I'm Lizzy, the newest Speech Pathologist at So to Speak, and I'm so excited to support children and their families as they build confidence and find their voice in ways that are meaningful to them. πŸ’›

I completed my Master of Speech Pathology in Texas and have had the opportunity to work with clients ranging from 3 to 80 years of age. After graduating, I spent two years working in an English-Spanish bilingual elementary school, where my passion for paediatric speech pathology and bilingualism continued to grow.

I have a special interest in bilingualism, speech and language development, speech sound disorders, and stuttering. I believe every child learns differently, which is why my therapy is evidence-based, play-based, and tailored to each child's unique strengths, interests, and goals.

One of my favourite parts of being a Speechie is working alongside families to create a warm, supportive environment where children feel safe to learn, have fun, and celebrate every milestone big or small. πŸ’¬βœ¨

I can't wait to meet you and your family and be part of your communication journey! πŸ’«

Let's give Lizzy a very warm So to Speak welcome! πŸ’œ

πŸ’™ Words matter πŸ’™

The language we use with children shapes how they see themselves, how safe they feel, and how willing they are to communicate.

At So to Speak, we strive to use language that supports connection over compliance. Rather than focusing on what a child should do, we focus on understanding what they need and working alongside them to help them succeed.

Every child communicates differently, learns differently and experiences the world differently. Our role is to meet them where they are, celebrate their strengths, and provide support that is respectful, meaningful and empowering.

Because when children feel understood, they're more likely to learn, connect and thrive. πŸ’™

πŸ”¬ Perth Play Spotlight: Scitech, West Perth

Looking for somewhere to burn off energy without worrying about the weather? β˜”πŸŒ§οΈ

Our therapists love Scitech for curious kids who love to explore, experiment and ask "Why?"

With hands-on exhibits, interactive science displays, live shows and Australia's largest planetarium, it's a fantastic place for children to learn through play, rain, hail or shine.

πŸ’™ Why our therapists love it:
🧠 Encourages curiosity and problem-solving
πŸ—£οΈ Creates endless opportunities for language development through commenting, questioning and storytelling
🀲 Supports turn-taking, joint attention and flexible thinking
✨ Hands-on activities keep children engaged through movement and exploration
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ A great place for families to learn together

πŸ’‘ Therapist Tip
Instead of rushing from one exhibit to the next, let your child take the lead.
Pause, observe what interests them and follow their curiosity.

You might say:
πŸ’¬ "I wonder what will happen if we press this?"
πŸ’¬ "That made a loud noise!"
πŸ’¬ "What do you notice?"

Following your child's interests naturally builds communication, attention and connection.

🌟 Star of the Month: Zac! 🌟

We are so excited to celebrate Zac as our Star of the Month! πŸ’™

Over the past month, Zac has made wonderful progress in his communication skills. He has been using more and more words to confidently share his thoughts, ideas and opinions, and it has been such a joy to watch his confidence continue to grow.

One of our favourite things about Zac is seeing his personality shine through. His growing vocabulary has allowed his fabulous sense of humour, cheeky sass and unique character to come to life in every session, making therapy so much fun!

We are incredibly proud of everything Zac has achieved and can't wait to see what he accomplishes next.

Keep being your amazing, authentic self, Zac, you are doing an incredible job! πŸŒŸπŸ’™
