Facebook memories can be funny, heartwarming, and sometimes confronting.
Today, a memory popped up from 8 years ago. It took me straight back to one of the darkest times of my life.
I had just found out I had stomach cancer. I was trapped in a DV relationship. Looking back at the environment I was in, the "friends" I surrounded myself with, and the lack of support I had, it breaks my heart. I was crying out for help, and some people laughed. Comments that should have been met with compassion were treated like a joke.
But in that darkness, I found something that would change my life forever.
I found Jungle Body.
At first, it was only one hour, twice a week. But for that one hour, my kids and I felt safe. We felt wanted. We felt accepted.
That one hour gave me strength. It gave me confidence. It gave me courage.
It helped me leave an unhealthy environment and start again from scratch.
Fast forward 8 years...
I'm married to a man who loves me, supports me, and believes in me. He doesn't call my ideas stupid. He encourages them. We bought a home together, built a life together, and when I had the crazy idea of starting my own Jungle Body classes, his response was simply:
"Go for it. Why not? You'll be amazing."
And here we are.
My mission has always been bigger than dance fitness. It's about mental health, wellbeing, connection, and creating a safe place where people can find the support that I desperately needed all those years ago.
That is how my Jungle Body journey began.
And now, every class, every conversation, every laugh, every hug after class reminds me why I do this.
The support you all show one another is incredible. The friendships you've built, the encouragement you give, and the kindness you share make this community so special.
I am beyond grateful and blessed to have each and every one of you in my life.
