This magnificent beauty will soon be in its new owners hands. I was approached by a lovely woman at the Magik and Mayhem Markets who was after something special. She came with the idea of three MASSIVE white feathers framed by black feathers (nothing fluffy), handed me her own stones, paid a deposit and gave me full reign to create. This of course lead to wonderous walking adventures, burnt thumbs, a sawdust trail through my house, a nasty blister, and a house and car full of feathers... but the result... a stunning 57cm smudging wand! Thats almost as long as my arm from fingertips to shoulder.

Essence

Running through the core is a line of frankincense resin, binding the entire piece from crown to base. This creates a continuous thread of clearing, intention, and spiritual grounding - not separate parts, but one unified current.

The labradorite centre stone anchors intuitive awareness and truth-seeing, helping the holder trust what is felt rather than overthought.

Beneath it, a smokey quartz point is embedded into the base, drawing excess energy downward, stabilising the body, and keeping the work grounded and contained.

Red-tailed black cockatoos greeting the evening in the trees right in front of me. Their calls carry through the forest like a conversation older than any of us. Moments like this are a reminder that the world is still full of wild, living rhythm - if we slow down enough to notice.

Interestingly, I learned something new tonight as well. Another woman stopped beside me to watch them in the same quiet awe. She noticed the single black feather I was already holding and it sparked a long, natural flowing conversation about birds, feathers, and the smudge wands I make - the intention, symbolism, and even the psychology behind them.

When I mentioned the feather was from a crow, she paused. I shared how crows are often seen as symbols of wisdom, insight, and deep awareness - birds known for their intelligence and their ability to observe the world carefully.

She then told me that in her Balinese culture, crows are rarely seen, and when they are it’s often taken as a sign that something unfortunate may follow.

Whether it was an omen for her or for me, we laughed about the mystery of it. What it really became was a fascinating reminder of how meaning changes across cultures - how the same bird can carry completely different stories depending on where you stand in the world.

The take away thought... Nature speaks in many languages. We’re just the ones interpreting the message.
