You will never feel ready.

Yesterday Dr Rand stood in front of 600 students at the Rural Health Pathways Showcase and told them about the day a teacher laughed when she asked how to get into dentistry.

She got in anyway. Charles Sturt, Orange. Now she takes a dental clinic into schools.

Confidence is in the reps. One small step. Motivation is not going to knock on your door.

Thank you RDN Health for having us.

11 when I first stepped into Australia struggling to put a sentence together I was mocked for my accent, I told my teacher I want to be a dentist and she laughed. I took it as a lesson not to let others opinions clutter your mind. 16 years later and I’m fortunate enough to place that spark in those kids to chase their “dentistry” Pearly has been a journey of learning and teaching others about the importance of prevention, going out to schools and great initiatives like Rural Doctors Network (RDN) to share my journey. To you who reads this I pray you never lose your spark and get to accomplish great things. It’s all in the small steps.

You do not have to ban the biscuits.

Every parent gets told to cut sugar, almost nobody manages it, so most end up doing nothing at all. But the amount matters less than the timing.

Every time something sweet or starchy hits the teeth, the mouth takes twenty to forty minutes to recover. One dessert after dinner is one acid attack. The same food grazed across an afternoon is six.

A lunchbox that stays open from eleven to three is harder on teeth than a proper dessert.

Same food, fewer sittings. That is the whole change, and it costs nothing.

Try it this afternoon. One sitting, then the box closes. Tell me if the whinging is better or worse than you expected.

If brushing your toddler's teeth is a nightly wrestling match, it is not defiance and it is not the toothbrush.

It is the sink.

Standing up, they cannot see your face and you cannot see the back molars. You are guessing and they are bracing.

Sit on the floor instead. Child on your lap, looking up at you. Now you can check every surface, and they can see what is coming.

Let them brush yours first. They get their turn, then you get yours.

Send this to a parent who needs it.

If your child has just been sick, do not reach for the toothbrush.

Stomach acid softens the enamel. Brushing straight after scrubs it while it is soft, and that does more damage than the vomiting did.

Rinse with plain water, or milk if they will take it. Wait about thirty minutes. Then brush.

Save this one. You will want it at 2am.

Your child's dental visit shouldn't be something they dread.

We got rid of the old standard. Sky ceiling, Netflix, a chair that doesn't feel clinical, and a team that isn't rushing them.

Same equipment as a proper clinic. Parked outside the classroom.

Oral health shouldn't depend on distance.

That's the whole reason Pearly exists. We bring the clinic to schools, childcare centres and aged care homes across Australia, including the regional places that rarely see a dentist.

Prevention first. Education. Habits that last.

It's not what you use, it's how you use it! Make sure you soften the miswak before using it gently on gums for 2 mins 💎
