I have been thinking lately, what feels peaceful to you?

One of my clients likes Metallica playing during her treatment. Another enjoys classical music.

For some, it’s a particular scent that helps them feel at ease. For others, it’s having an hour where they don’t need to look after anyone else.

I personally love the sound and energy of big cities, while others feel most at home in the countryside.

Over the years, one thing I’ve learnt is that no two people are the same, and neither are the things that help them feel comfortable and cared for during a treatment. These things can coexist during all skin treatments.

That’s one of the things I love about working one-on-one and being a solo skin therapist. There’s time for the little details that matter to you.

The truth is, peaceful looks different for everyone.

I’d love to know what does peaceful look like for you?

I may not be a well-known therapist within the skin and aesthetics industry, but after 25+ years in the treatment room, I do know a few little things about client care and the art of creating a treatment experience. 🌻

I certainly don’t want to offend others. Still, I've been thinking recently about how the importance of the treatment bed and our clients' comfort feels a little overlooked at times, especially as the industry in Australia moves more towards results-driven treatments and technology. I will say Europe has always approached this a little differently, though.

Our clients should feel like they are lying on a first-class, not an economy-class bed. And how quietly and mindfully we move around the room matters too.

These things are not fluffy extras; they are important, no matter your aesthetic. Sometimes the fundamentals are still the most important things we do.

Curious to hear from fellow therapists what part of the treatment experience do you think is becoming overlooked? Lindy 💚 X

Client case — Rosacea. 💚

This lovely studio guest came to see me, treating her skin as sensitive.

Education plays a strong role in how I treat rosacea in the studio. Because when you have the right information, you can better understand your skin and how to support it.

What we were seeing here wasn’t just sensitivity.

: Persistent background redness
: Frequent flushing that lingers
: Heat through the skin
: Pain and discomfort
: Stinging and ongoing reactivity
: Hightend nerve and vascular reactivity
: A rash-like response linked to histamine
: Redness with a bumpy, uneven texture that had been there for years

Rosacea is complex, and the way the skin is assessed matters. After one treatment, you can already see a shift.

The redness has softened, the tone is more even, and the skin is beginning to settle.

Rosacea is a long-term skin condition. One treatment doesn’t fix it, but with the right tools and support, it can be managed. Lindy 💚X

Low humidity is a common but often under-recognised trigger in rosacea.

Especially in climates such as here in Victoria, where the air can become very dry.

When humidity drops, the air draws moisture from the skin more easily, increasing water loss.

In rosacea-prone skin, where the skin barrier is naturally more fragile, this can lead to.

• Water loss and dehydration.
• Heightened sensitivity, stinging, burning.
• Inflammation and redness.
• Greater reactivity to skincare, wind, cold air and heating.

Low humidity, combined with indoor heating, wind, and cold air, all accelerate moisture loss.

It’s not just dryness. It is what is happening within the skin. Oils or heavier creams can feel comforting, but don’t address what’s happening within the skin.

When water is being lost faster than it can be retained, a rosacea skin needs support from key lipids, ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids, which help hold water in and keep the barrier functioning well.

In rosacea-prone skin, this increased water loss can heighten nerve sensitivity, leading to stinging, flushing and increased reactivity, which is why the skin feels so reactive.

I hope this information is helpful if you are living with rosacea. Education is key to understanding your skin. Lindy 💚X

It’s Rosacea Awareness Month, and as a skin therapist who specialises in rosacea, I wanted to share some insight into rosacea that you may not know.

So, what are these little skin mites?

These are Demodex mites, which live within our skin, inside hair follicles and sebaceous (oil) glands, feeding on oil and dead skin cells.

Everyone has them, and most of the time, they exist in balance without causing any skin issues.

There are two types of Demodex, one that lives within the hair follicles and another that sits deeper within the oil glands, with the follicle type more often seen in rosacea.

Around the eyes, they live in the hair follicles of the eyelashes and within the oil glands of the eyelids, rather than in the eye itself. In some cases, increased numbers may be associated with ocular rosacea.

The skin is home to a range of microorganisms, known as the skin microbiome, and these tiny mites are a natural part of it.

In some people with rosacea, higher numbers of Demodex are found on the skin. The exact reason for this is not fully understood, but changes in the skin environment and immune response are thought to play a role.

Demodex can carry bacteria, and in some people, this may make the skin more reactive, contributing to inflammation, including papules and pustules.

Not all rosacea is linked to Demodex overgrowth, but for some, it can be one piece of a much bigger picture.

Rosacea is complex and individual, and understanding your own skin is key.

If you’re navigating rosacea and not sure where to start, please feel reach out. I’d love to help. Lindy 💚X

If you’ve been coming to or following the studio for a long time, you might remember this pretty image by 🤍

It used to sit as a postcard to take away, and as a big poster on the wall as you walked up the stairs to the studio (who remembers my Ripponlea days above The Staple Store?).

This image reflects something that’s always been part of the studio kindness, to others and to ourselves. It shaped the studio’s feel in those days and still does.

The studio has rebranded, and things have changed. The aesthetic has evolved, with a focus and appearance that are more skin-led (which is what I am and have always been) and less about sharing things like this.

But this has always been at the core of the studio and in how I do life. The world feels a bit heavy and unsettled at the moment, and unkindness is feeling a bit too normal in how we interact with others.

We can’t control everything, but we can try to meet each other a little more gently.

Kindness shouldn’t depend on the situation. Kindness is often spoken about (especially on social media), but it’s not always lived.

I often think about what things would feel like if we were all just a little softer, a little more understanding, and just a little nicer to each other. Love, Lindy 💚X

This can be a tricky subject to talk about in the holistic beauty world, and there are lots of strong opinions around it. So I’ll say this kindly. You do you. Always. If you’re curious, have a read below.

What I see quite often is people investing only in injectables, without first supporting the skin itself.

Injectables, if you choose to do them, are meant to enhance the face, but they don’t replace skin health.

Your skin is the foundation. Its strength, hydration, texture and ability to repair all influence how injectables look and how long results last.

Injectables sit within the skin. When the skin is well supported, everything tends to settle and wear better over time.

From a skin science perspective, healthy skin is better able to tolerate change. A well-functioning barrier, balanced inflammation, good hydration and stronger collagen support all help the skin respond more smoothly.

Facials/skincare play a different role. They support skin health and function, helping with texture, dehydration, sensitivity, congestion and overall skin behaviour.

These are things that change over time and influence how skin looks and feels, but aren’t addressed by injectables alone.

That’s why a skin-first approach matters not instead of injectables, but alongside them.

Supporting the skin helps amplify results and often improves longevity. It’s about working with the skin, not just adding to it.

Skin first. Then enhance, if and when you choose.
