Healthy Kids Naturally - Paediatric Naturopath Paediatric Naturopath and Nutritionist - I believe children’s nutrition and gut health are the missing links in their health and wellbeing

🌙 Sleep disorders in children can affect much more than just bedtime.

Difficulty falling asleep, frequent night waking, restless sleep, snoring, daytime tiredness and irritability can all be signs that a child's sleep quality isn't where it should be.

Quality sleep is essential for healthy growth, brain development, learning, memory consolidation and emotional regulation. During deep and REM sleep, children process new information, strengthen neural connections and support their developing bodies and minds.

As a naturopath, I take a holistic approach to children's sleep concerns, looking beyond the symptoms to identify potential underlying causes. These may include nutrient deficiencies such as magnesium or zinc, gut health imbalances, anxiety and stress, or dysfunctional breathing patterns like mouth breathing.

By addressing the root causes and supporting the body naturally, we can help children achieve more restful sleep and wake feeling refreshed, focused and ready to thrive. 💚

Struggling with your child's sleep? 😴 Sleep disorders are incredibly common in children and can affect far more than just their energy levels. Poor sleep can impact mood, concentration, learning, behaviour, immune function and healthy growth.

Children experiencing sleep difficulties may have trouble falling asleep, wake frequently during the night, experience restless sleep, snore or seem tired and irritable during the day.

Deep and REM sleep are particularly important because they support:
🧠 Brain development
📝 Memory and learning
🥹 Emotional regulation
💪 Physical growth and repair

As a naturopath, I take a holistic approach to supporting healthy sleep. This may include addressing nutrient deficiencies, supporting gut health, reducing anxiety and teaching Buteyko breathing techniques to encourage calm, efficient breathing and relaxation.

Certain foods can also help support healthy sleep patterns, including cherries, bananas, oats, almonds and turkey. In some cases, supplements such as magnesium may also be beneficial in calming the nervous system and promoting restful sleep.

With the right support, many children can experience significant improvements in both sleep quality and overall wellbeing. 💙

This smoothie is a gentle, nourishing way to support healthy sleep habits in children when enjoyed as part of a balanced diet and bedtime routine. 🌙 💙

Tart cherry juice is a natural source of melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate the sleep–wake cycle. 🍒

Combined with banana, which provides magnesium and potassium to support muscle relaxation, and almond butter, which contains healthy fats that help promote satiety and stable blood sugar levels, this smoothie may help calm the nervous system and support a more restful night's sleep. 🍌

Struggling with your child’s sleep? 😴 One of the powerful tools in practice is Buteyko breathing. This gentle technique teaches children to breathe slowly, calmly and through their nose, helping to relax the nervous system and support better sleep.

By improving breathing patterns, children may experience reduced anxiety, find it easier to fall asleep and enjoy more restful sleep throughout the night. It’s a simple, natural approach that works alongside nutritional and lifestyle strategies to support overall wellbeing.

Quality sleep plays an important role in your child’s mood, concentration, immunity and healthy development. If your child is having difficulties with sleep, support is available.

🍌 Bananas – rich in magnesium and potassium for muscle relaxation.

🥣 Oats – contain melatonin and B vitamins to promote restful sleep.

🌰 Almonds – provide magnesium and healthy fats that support the nervous system.

Let’s talk about sleep disorders in children. 😴

Sleep challenges in children are more common than many people realise and they can affect far more than just bedtime.

Quality sleep plays a vital role in a child’s learning, emotional regulation, behaviour, physical growth and overall wellbeing. When sleep is disrupted, children may struggle with focus, memory, mood, energy levels and day-to-day functioning.

Signs of a possible sleep disorder can include:
• Difficulty falling asleep
• Frequent waking during the night
• Restless or interrupted sleep
• Snoring
• Daytime tiredness or irritability

Supporting healthy sleep habits can make a meaningful difference in a child’s wellbeing both at home and at school.
