Aidan Tales The Cancer Fight - A rollicking tale of unbounded resilience, medical trail blazing, athletic prowess, unrivalled loving support and epic screen marathons

Hello Aidan Tales!

We have an update on Aidan's treatment:

Yesterday was results day. One of Aidan’s tumours has shrunk further, while the other remains unchanged. While we would have hoped for more progress, it’s still a relief that the second tumour hasn’t grown, as it had in the last scan.

His blood tests showed inflammation in his liver and thyroid caused by the treatment. Because of this, immunotherapy is on hold until the inflammation reduces. He’s been put on a course of steroids, which is helping—the levels have already dropped significantly from 320 to 60 in a week (with normal being in the 30s). It’s reassuring to see progress, but we know there’s still a way to go.

When treatment resumes, he’ll be receiving a double dose of the single drug—something we weren’t expecting. But as we’ve learned, nothing about this journey is predictable. We take things one step at a time.

Thank you for your continued support—it truly means the world. 💛💜

Aidan’s journey has been filled with challenges, but also with hope. Recently, Channel 9 featured him in a special report about genomic testing and trial cancer treatments, highlighting the cutting-edge medical advancements that could help young-adults like him. He bravely shared his story in hopes of making a difference—not just for himself, but for other young adults battling cancer. 💛💜

Hello all! 💛💜

Many of you will have heard about my son Aidan’s journey with cancer over the last 4 years.

The story in his own words….

“In August 2021 I was diagnosed with Lipo Sarcoma after noticing my stomach had started to swell. I had experienced some pain and discomfort prior, but the size of my belly was the main cause of concern. Scans showed that I had a large tumour in my abdomen.

Soon after, I underwent chemotherapy and a major operation to remove the tumour. All went as well as possible, the tumour was removed at a size of 54cm! As a result, I had other organs and tissue removed leaving me with two permanent stomas.

After five rounds of chemotherapy, I was discharged from treatment and lived two years away from Pete Mac Cancer Hospital. I returned multiple clear scans and signs were showing I may have beaten cancer for good.

However, in February 2024, a scan revealed a baseball sized tumour near my right kidney. Surgery, removed the tumour along with the kidney. In August, a scan once again revealed a tumour, this time much smaller and closer to my liver. Surgery was once again required.

It was apparent the cancer would continue returning unless we took a more comprehensive approach through an immunotherapy drug trial. In November, when scans once again revealed a tumour low in my pelvis, it was decided trial immunotherapy would be the best way forward. Unfortunately, as my cancer is extremely rare, particularly for someone my age, government funding is not provided for the treatment I require, and therefore self- funding is necessary.

We’re hoping this treatment will finally have the efficacy needed to beat this disease for good!”

For everyone who knows Aidan, you will understand that he is the master of understatement and while he is currently well, it has been an arduous journey.

In different ways the whole family and Aidan’s gorgeous girlfriend Amy, have had their own journeys, which are changeable and relentless. We are always open to conversation, but sometimes hard to talk about for us and no doubt ask for all our friends and family, so I thought I would add some detail to Aidan’s Cancer Journey on this page 🥰
