What a first therapy session might look like*
You don’t need to arrive with everything organised, explained, or ready to be shared.
Often, a first session is about getting a sense of fit
a sense of whether you'll feel comfortable with the therapist and the space
We might talk about what has brought you to therapy What you’re hoping therapy can support with.
What feels most important or pressing for you right now
We might also talk through practical things like which therapy approaches might work best for you or answering any questions you might have.
The thing is,
You’re allowed to ask questions.
You’re allowed to take your time.
You’re allowed to say, “I’m not sure where to start.”
Therapy should never rush past safety, past building a good relationship.
