Ice baths 🥶 there’s something powerful about reconnecting with your body through the cold & how I have missed it!
Within the first minute, you can feel your body start to shift. The initial shock gives way to calm as you focus on your breath and tune into your body’s sensations. It’s wild how quickly your mind can move from fear to empowerment like, “I’m a boss, I can handle this!” (And, honestly, same 😆) often telling myself I’ve given birth I can do anything (has got me through the hardest uncomfortable ice baths lol)
I won’t lie, there’s almost always some resistance before getting in, especially if it’s not a super hot day. I’m never jumping in thinking “Yesss, let’s freeze!” But once I’m submerged, everything slows down. The body goes into a meditative state, and I can breathe my way through it. The cold shifts my energy.
The science behind it: cold exposure can reduce inflammation, increase circulation, and activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the body’s rest-and-digest mode). After I finish, I feel calmer, more energised, and less inflamed. That’s why I love it !
But here’s the thing, ice baths aren’t for everyone. Some people can’t handle the intensity, and that’s okay. If you are thinking about trying one, make sure you have done your research. Be aware of how your body and breath can react
When you are in, focus on your breath: inhale slowly through the nose, and exhale gently through the mouth as your body adjusts. Over time, your breath naturally becomes more regulated, and your body will begin to adapt (best part)
Stay present, focus on your experience, not the distractions around you. And if you can, have support (highly recommend) It makes a difference!
For me, cold showers are an alternative, but they don’t compare to full submersion. It’s the deep freeze that really gives me that reset.
If you are feeling called to try it, educate yourself, listen to your body, and breathe through the challenge 💙
