Our beautiful Hayley has been stepping outside her comfort zone lately, trying so many new things — and we couldn’t be prouder 💛

From baking and cooking at home to joining a craft group and creating some beautiful handmade pieces. Hayley has been embracing new experiences, building confidence out & about engaging with other people.

It’s amazing what can happen when someone is supported, encouraged, and given the opportunity to explore their interests in their own way ✨

The phrase they cite is “tōku/tōna anō takiwā.” The idea is a respectful way to describe autism through a Māori lens—focusing on someone moving through the world in their own time and space, rather than using harsh labels.

A reminder that language can shape understanding with respect and dignity.

No one talks about the siblings of special needs kids.

The ones who grow up learning patience way too young.

The ones who wait quietly while appointments run long.

The ones who learn flexibility before they ever learn fairness.

They learn that plans change.
That meltdowns aren’t personal.
That love sometimes looks uneven,
even when it isn’t at all.

They become helpers.
Protectors.
Observers.

They love deeply.
They sacrifice silently.
They grow up with empathy most adults never learn.

And while they may not need the same supports…
they still deserve to be seen.

To be celebrated.
To be chosen loudly and intentionally.

Because being the sibling of a child with special needs shapes a heart forever.
And their story matters too.
