Meet Garry! 👋

Garry is one of our amazing support workers here at Evercare. We asked him a few questions about his experience in support work and what he loves most about the job. 💙

How long have you been working at Evercare?
“It's been a year now!”

What’s your favourite part about working with Evercare?
“The team. It’s a great group of support workers who genuinely care about their clients and each other.”

Why did you choose support work?
“A long time ago I met a client who completely changed my outlook. I was young, and he helped me see beyond his disability to the person he truly was. We became friends for many years until he sadly passed away. That experience stayed with me.”

Favourite support memory?
“Watching a young man who had been through a traumatic accident never give up. He was given a 1% chance to live. What they didn’t count on was the other 99%. One day he walked 120 metres with a frame, even though he was blind. His laughter and sense of humour inspired me so much.”

Unexpected skill?
Cooking Lebanese food and singing karaoke! 🎤

What does good support mean to you?
“Helping someone build the skills and confidence to live as independently as possible, and supporting them to make their own decisions and live life fully.”

A common misunderstanding about support work?
“That men don’t have a caring nature.”

What do you like to do outside of work?
“I’m obsessed with my football club the Wests Tigers, love cooking, country drives and music.”

Secret talent?
“I can wiggle my ears without touching them… and I play bass and sing!” 🎸

Favourites:
🍜 Food: Chinese, pizza and Lebanese
☕ Drink: Coffee — less depresso, more espresso
🌙 Night owl or early bird? Night owl!

Good support is not just about being there.
It is about how you show up.

The way our support workers take the time to understand each participant.
The way they support independence without rushing or taking over.
The way they build routines that actually fit into real life.

We are a Sunshine Coast based NDIS provider supporting people in their homes and out in the community.

Our focus is simple:

Support that respects choice and control
Consistent, reliable support workers
Real relationships built on trust
Everyday skill building that feels achievable
Community access that is safe, calm, and meaningful

Some days that looks like a quiet morning at home with a cup of tea and a familiar routine.
Other days it looks like heading to the beach, walking alongside someone as they build confidence in the community.

There is no single way support should look.
It should adapt to the person, not the other way around.

If you are a participant, family member, or support coordinator looking for a provider who focuses on consistency, communication, and doing the basics properly, you are in the right place.

🧡 Multiple Sclerosis Day

Today we recognise MS Day and raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis, a condition that affects everyone differently. No two journeys are the same, and symptoms can change from day to day.

At Evercare Support, we understand the importance of individualised NDIS supports in helping people living with MS maintain independence and stay connected to their communities.

Over the past decade, MS Australia has championed the voices of people living with MS and advocated for a better, more responsive NDIS. While progress has been made, there is still more to do.

A better NDIS means:
✔ Flexible, participant-focused funding that reflects real needs
✔ A skilled and knowledgeable workforce across disability and government services
✔ Evidence-based planning tailored to each individual
✔ Stronger support to grow and sustain a high-quality disability workforce
✔ Improved housing and living options that support independence and choice

Living with MS is unpredictable, but support should not be. Together, we continue to advocate for an NDIS that truly understands and supports the MS community.

Today we recognise Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Day and the impact of this lifelong condition. 💜

For the first time in history, people born with cystic fibrosis today are reaching a predicted median life expectancy of around 65 years. This reflects decades of progress and breakthroughs in care and treatment.

But this milestone does not represent everyone currently living with cystic fibrosis, and many still face significant daily health challenges.

There is still no cure.

Today our team came together in purple, taking a moment to connect, reflect and show our support. We also completed a 65 minute walk in recognition of how far things have come, and the work still ahead.

🖤 National Sorry Day

Today Evercare Support acknowledges the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on the ongoing impacts of past government policies.

There is still important work to do towards healing, truth-telling and justice.

As an NDIS provider, we are committed to delivering trauma-informed and culturally safe supports that respect each person’s lived experience. This includes listening, providing flexible and person-centred supports, and strengthening cultural safety across our workforce.

Survivors deserve care that is safe, respectful and empowering.

🧠 World Schizophrenia Awareness Day

World Schizophrenia Awareness Day is about building understanding and reducing stigma.

Support, compassion and connection play an important role in helping people live well with mental health conditions. With the right supports, individuals can maintain independence, build confidence and stay connected to their communities.

Person-centred supports recognise that every individual’s experience is different and should be met with respect and understanding.

Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive community.
