One of the challenging things about perimenopause is that it doesn’t always look like “menopause”.
Women can experience changes in sleep, mood, anxiety, cognition, periods, body composition, joint pain or urinary and vaginal symptoms — often without realising they may be connected.
And because these symptoms can appear at different times, it’s easy to look at each one in isolation rather than joining the dots.
Of course, not every symptom in your 40s is hormonal — other causes still need to be considered.
But hormones deserve to be part of the conversation.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be unpacking some of these symptoms, what may be happening hormonally, and the evidence-based treatment options we can consider.
Was there a symptom you never realised could be connected to perimenopause? I’d love to know.
